what's to hammer out? Portland is in a corner to spend their money on the last free agent around or do nothing with this cap room they've been saving up for 2 years and clearing out? KP probably is dusting off the knee pads in his closet right about now.

I don't really understand what's taking so long... not that I'm in a huge rush to get this done, but (as we've discussed elsewhere) it's not like Hedo has (m)any other options, especially if the kind of money that's being reportedly offered really is.

Hedo's Agent is upping the price by the minute. Its not hard to do, Blazers really don't have any options to spend this money on as far as I can see.

This is what I imagine the negotions to be like (Hedo's Agent is Darth Vader)

I think the main thing to hammer out is the potential option year and how to front load or back load the deal to save the lux tax. Hedo is going to make a starters wage in the NBA, and there is nothing wrong with that. The majority of starters in the NBA make 8 to 10mil per year.

The convo on B-Edge's twitter might suggest that KP might be dragging out the negotiation to weaken Hedo's position.

His agent may be hoping that "Toronto+Marion" falls through so that he can play two competing offers against one another. Other than that, I'm not sure why it'd take so long. Both parties are in an equally weak negotiation position (Hedo has no other suitors; Portland has this space for one summer with no one else decent enough to spend it on), which should've made it an easier process IMO.

Re: Hedo / Blazers hammerin out deal

    I lean in this direction.

I think the sides have already zerored in on a total contract number.

Since the rumours have long been at 5 years, $50mil, let's assume it is that number.

If the Blazers front load that contract, it may help them down the line. Their possible luxury bills would be lower. They would find it easier to trade Hedo.

Those are important, yet in order to front load the contract they have to renounced Freeland and Kop and maybe make another move. Those are "costs" the team may not want to pay.

What important sticking points over the contract could there be? I think two. Turk's agent may want a trade kicker in the contract. The Blazers won't want this. The Blazers will want the 5th year a team option or a partial guarantee. Turk won't want this.

When you look at the deals that have been agreed to so far, only Ben Gordon hit the jackpot. Jason Kidd, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest are all taking MLE money. Why should Turk get nearly twice as much, and for more years than Artest and Kidd?

Re: Hedo / Blazers hammerin out deal

You know that KP is a "culture" guy. At the press conference KP will talk about how they wanted to spend time with Hedo to make sure he fits the culture. I think in reallity, this is KP's first time hosting a free agent. He wants to put on the entire dog and pony show. Not just for Hedo, but for himself. KP needs the practice in this skill since the Blazers will not have cap room to do this again for many years. MLE tours are usually quick hitters and the player does not have to be sold on the city.

Ah, ok, nevermind on my post. Still no hints of any details at all. The contract terms itself are still the big unknown.Well, there you go. Hedo Turkoglu is coming to the Rose City. The 2009 revamping of the roster is well underway.
