Not a huge surprise, but the contract amount is astronomical for a guy that will be 37 next season.

Wow, so he really plans to play until he's 40...

Not a surprise at all. Now with Bibby agreeing to re-up in Atlanta, and Kidd off the market (I didn't want either of them btw) the only free agent PG that we can sign out right is Miller. He would be a big upgrade as to what we have now but I wonder how much KP likes him since he pursued Hedo as his big acquisition (unless he always thought he could make a trade with Philly which is a risky move). I wonder if he is targeting someone else and is pursuing a sign and trade.

When did Bibby re-up in ATL?

Ariza gone, Artest gone, Hedo gone, Charlie V. gone, Gordon gone, Kidd gone, Odom (probably) gone, Bibby (probably) gone.

That leaves Lee, Millsap, Bass, McDyess and RFA Sessions and possibly Miller.

The list of possibilities grows thinner.

Actually I don't think Miller is gone at all. I think Miller and his agent are holding out to see if he gets an offer from the Blazers. My hope is that if Portland approaches Miller, Philly becomes interested in a sign and trade vs Miller leaving without them getting anything. Then we could use our capspace to sign a back up PF or in a lopsided trade for someone like Gerald Wallace. It would leave us with options in any event.

I don't think Odom is gone either. Odom and LA have a lot of negotiating to do. LA seems to be trying to lure him into taking less for the team, but Odom still wants more money.

I got Bibby and Miller transposed in my tired post 4th brain, my bad, I will fix it. I think Odom is as good as gone and not worth pursuing. Jacking up Odom's price is not a good enough reason to go for him. If there is a vastly higher chance of getting an S and T with Sessions I think you go for that. If that doesn't seem possible you go for Miller but I would swing for the fences, but on a pitch I felt I had a chance of hitting (Sessions).

I'd be interested in Odom, the problem is I think LA will match whatever he is offered (especially if an up and coming team like us tries to sign him). I think Buss would rather over pay to keep Odom vs seeing the Blazers get better while his team is weakened.

Sessions is definitely an option but you have to wonder what the Bucks will do. I can't get a read on what that team is looking for. They draft a PG for the future and go against what everyone thought they would do by renouncing Charlie V. I would be leary of trying to make a huge offer and then have to wait 2 weeks to see if the Bucks match. I guess I would call the Bucks and see if they were interested in a sign and trade, if they said no then I would move on to someone else.

He's basically saying if we offer something like 4 yrs/36 Million, LA will also offer 4 yrs/36 Million. And it's quite easy to figure out where he would rather go.

    So, same figure.

I would worried about that to, except there isn't anyone else out there who fits what Portland needs even close to as well as Sessions.

The other players that are out there will probably still be out there after 2 weeks. The big money outside of Portland is pretty well gone, I believe.

Memphis used up their cap when they traded for Stat-Bo.
Detroit wasted their cap space on a couple of one dimensional players.
    Toronto used theirs for Hedo.
Dallas resigned Kidd and are trying to grab Gortat.

I think only the Kings and OKC have any remaining space, but not as much as Portland has.

Portland can afford to gamble to get Sessions. If that doesn't pan out, they can start looking at trades.

But I think they would sell themselves short if they didn't try to get Sessions from the Bucks.

This is what happens when the team's owner refuses to admit he made a colossal mistake in moving Harris for Kidd. Further, he wants to avoid the other mistake he made when he didn't extend Nash.

Not that I particularly care. Old Kidd + Dallas = 8th seed for the next 3 years.
