I think we are going make a trade rather than hit the (thin) FA market. We have close to $10m under the cap and have flexibility to make a lopsided trade. Philly has a player that has rapidly developed this past season and could make their current star expendable. Thad Young is a player that is on the verge of breaking out. Only 21, all-around game, 6'8" and athletic. I can see why KP was rumored to be interested in Thad last season. Anway, I think we could pry Andre Iguodala from a rebuilding 76ers team. 22 PPG / 6 RPG / 7 APG (playoffs) Iggy could be that second ballhandler/creator we wanted in Hedo next to Roy. He has a long term/expensive contract but he's worth what he's getting paid. He fits now and our longterm plan. $12,200,000 $12,345,250 $13,531,750 $14,718,250 $15,904,750
I like Iggy as well, but I don't think there's a chance in hell the Sixers trade him to us. Which is why nobody has talked about it, as you say. Iggy is their franchise player. He's not going anywhere.
Wallace could qualify as a player that nobody has talked about.. he kind of fell off the radar after the deadline.
There's no way a "rebuilding" team trades away the cornerstone of their rebuilding effort. Iguodala is very good and young. If you wanted Elton Brand (general "you," not referring to Portland), I'm sure Philadelphia would be happy to deal. Brand is the piece that doesn't fit on a rebuilding team.
With Thaddeus Young developing the way he is, I think we can make them think about it. We have a lot of assets we can consolidate. KP shouldn't settle for what's perceived to be available by the general public, he ought to swing for the fences. We wont have this cap flexibility for as long as we have Roy/Aldridge/Oden on this team. KP has tried to go for a player on the tier of Iggy last season when he was scoring 27 PPG (Granger), he has the audacity to approach a team about their franchise player. With teams rebuilding and with our young assets we can deal, we have a shot.
If Thad Young does develop into a top notch SF, why wouldn't Philly keep Iggy and play him at the 2 next to Young. He's on the short side for a small forward and has the ball handling and passing skills to play the 2. He's sort of their version of Brandon Roy. I doubt they would trade him just for cap space and somebody else's cast-offs. BNM
I just don't understand why we keep seeing threads about trying to "pry away" franchise players from other teams when we already have 3 franchise players. We need role-players that make our franchise players better, not players that demand the ball and take away reps from an already crowded offensive team. Iguodala might not be a franchise player everywhere, but he is for the Sixers and they aren't going to just give him up for spare parts, draft picks, and money, considering the fact that he's their best player.
It doesn't hurt to call teams and ask, but I think you have to be at least a tiny bit realistic. Iggy isn't going to get traded any time soon. Philly obviously believes he is an all star caliber player. The only way they trade him is if they get someone like that in return. So pretty much Roy, LA or Oden would have to be involved. Do you want to trade any of those three for Iggy? I certainly don't.
Not as annoying as over throwing ideas. But I suppose some people find it fun to imagine how great it would be if we have all-stars at every position.
