I would love this move. The guy put up monster numbers when given the time. I wonder how this offer will be "toxic" to keep other teams away.
I'm sure you can predict it. A: fans will hate on KP B: fans will make fun of Utah, wondering (out loud) why a player would go there instead of Portland (even if it wasn't necessarily his choice). C: Millsap will be a jerk. D: Curse you Chris Wallace! E: I hate KP!
I'd LOVE to get Millsap. I wanted the Blazers to pick him at 30, or 31 back in the 2006 draft. We ended up passing on him 3 times before he finally fell to Utah. Of course, if we would have drafted him back then, he'd be our RFA right now and all we'd have to do is set back and match any offer. Sounds like we may end up overpaying to get him, but that's better than doing nothing with all that cap space. The only problem I see, is that he can REALLY only play the 4. Is he going to be happy in Portland getting overpaiud to back-up LaMarcus Aldridge for 12 - 14 minutes a game? Of course, LaMarcus can also play back-up minutes at the 5, especially when paired with a rebounding stud like Millsap. A big man rotation of Oden, Aldridge and Millsap would be sweet. So, perhaps this could be just the first domino to fall - perhaps followed by a trade of Joel to shore up our PG position. I know Chicago originally wanted Joel before they blew their wad on Ben Wallace a few years ago. Perhaps a Joel/Travis or Joel/Blake package to Chicago is next in line. BNM
This would be amazing. If we can convince Millsap to play behind LA... and be the focal point of our second unit (which gets a lot of run)... studly.
Won't Utah just try to dump Boozer and then match? Boozer's leaving at the end of the year anyway. Maybe they'll give him to the Suns for Big Ben's contract, because BB's supposed to be retiring.
KP Sucks! It's been 15 minutes now and Millsap isn't signed! Aint gonna happen folks. What's plan Z? barfo
This would make me so happy. The Jazz radio guys have been very leary about the Blazers abilty to screw up "the biggest off seasion in Utah Jazz history". (yes that is the promo they run every day all day on the local radio station)
Maybe Kammerich will finally come over. Or Nicola. I mean, we waited for Sabonis, we can wait for these guys.
I've heard Portland likes Millsap, and would like him to sign, but by getting him to an offer sheet, it also gets Utah to move on Boozer more quickly, which could help Portland (i.e. the three-way deal with Chicago and Utah). Utah was wanting to move Boozer without taking on too much cap room, which Portland has. Thus, Portland gets Hinrich or Millsap, depending on what decision Utah makes. Or it could all backfire and Utah could decide to match on Millsap and move Boozer elsewhere.
Salt Lake City is a very cosmopolitan town! Very hip,has an international feel. Hope Mrs. Millsap doesn't want to stay!
