Apparently POR can offer a signing bonus of up to 17.5%...that is part of the "toxic" talk... Huh? How many of Millsap's outside shots did he create on his own versus Outlay? I think Travis Outlaw at his current contract is a much better player for the Blazers than wasting precious cap space on Paul Millsap.

Does anyone know the rules for setting up front loaded contracts? Are they set up with similar guidelines, where they can only decline by that 6.9% or whatever?
If this is what they have planned then all I have to say is that is fucking cold ... and I love it. Whether or not Millsap is the right choice a plan like this is absolutely brilliant if capable. Especially towards a division rival. It almost has a dirty "Memphis" feel to it.
Why does it need to be an outside shot he created? Wouldn't you prefer a shot from 5 feet away over a shot from 20 feet away?
The point is that we have two great assets, and a pretty glaring need at another position. You don't keep two assets at the same position while leaving an opening at a very important position (assuming you can get equivalent talent exchanged in a trade).
That sounds like an argument against signing Millsap, to me. Isn't signing Millsap creating exactly such a two-asset situation? barfo
To me, getting rid of Billa would make sense at the trade deadline, once Oden has proved that he can stay healthy and in the game, before that calling it two assets is a bit optimistic, I view it more as 1.5 assets.
But there's a limited pool of free agents. Signing a talented player at a position that you have talent at, since there are no talented players at a position of need, and then trading from that surplus to address need is a reasonable resource-management strategy.
Not unless there is an equal PG talent in the FA pool that we are not extending an offer to in order to extend the offer the Milsap. If there is a FA PG that is as good as Milsap is at PF, then yes, signing Milsap would be a mistake. I'm not aware of any out there. Are you?
