It originates from John Lund. I have been listening to him all morning and he claims to have heard it yesterday and was going to discuss it today until he heard about Portland's offer to Millsap. He says he has a source that says Utah is pushing for it.

From 95.5 The Game: Blazers would send cap space "and some player" to Utah.

Also, Ty Thomas would be coming in the trade, dunno to Portland or Utah.

I don't see how he fits in Portland, so hopefully he'd go to Utah.

EDIT: Not to mention I don't like Ty Thomas' attitude. Isn't he the dude who wanted to "just show up and get his check" for the dunk contest a few years ago?

F that. Thomas is an Outlaw clone. I'd take Bass or Millsap over him any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Don't know why either Chicago is looking to blow up their team once again after having a good year. Already lost Gordon, now maybe Hinrich and Thomas. And who knows if Boozer would re-sign there.

Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed?

Unless they can dump Boozer, or let Millsap walk for absolutely nothing, the Jazz will be in luxury tax hell. This trade would allow them to dump Boozer and his huge salary and keep Millsap - who they would rather have - younger, cheaper, locked up long term. Depending on what we get back from Chicago (likely Hinrich + ???), we'll probably be sending out Blake (he'd be a good back-up PG for either the Bulls (most likely) or the Jazz.

Only Thomas is a great help defender and a decent rebounder. Outlaw is none of those things.

Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed?

No he's not. Thomas is a very good defender with a low basketball IQ. Outlaw is a one-dimensional scorer with a low basketball IQ. Other than the low basketball IQ, their games are almost exact opposites.

I'd rather have Millsap than Thomas, but I'd also rather have Hinrich + Thomas than just Millsap.

Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed?

Um, no they are not. Going into the off season they were planning on Boozer leaving via free agency so they could keep Milsap. This is just a different way of getting that done.

I can't argue with that. That does meet two of our goals this summer. Ego wise I just don't see Chicago giving up on Thomas.

Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed?

Thomas is more of a 3 than a 4 to me ... I just don't see him being very useful as a backup to Aldridge. We'd be in the same boat we were in with Travis, having to use an undersized forward to back up LaMarcus.

I'd prefer a real banger in there to backup LA.

I heard that segment on the radio. The way I interpreted it was....we give up cap space & a player to utah, utah gives up boozer to chicago, chicago gives up hinrich to us.

Re: Portland/Utah/Chicago three-way trade being discussed?

I'd hope to Portland as he would fill a need at the back up PF or maybe even a larger line up playing at the three. Chicago needs a big, not so sure Utah loves Boozer, maybe Utah would be interested in keeping Millsap and getting a trade exception, appears that Portland is forcing Utah into making a trade, maybe something like this?

UTA Sends: Carlos Boozer to CHI
UTA Receives: Jerome James or Tim Thomas (both expiring) + Trade exception (from our salary cap)

POR Sends: Steve Blake to CHI, Travis Outlaw to CHI, Trade exception (from our salary cap) to UTA
POR Receives: Kirk Hinrich, Ty Thomas

CHI Sends: Kirk Hinrich to POR, Ty Thomas to POR, Jerome James or Tim Thomas to UTA
CHI Receives: Carlos Boozer, Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw

    Hinrich, Bayless
    Roy, Rudy
    Batum, Webster
    Aldridge, Thomas
    Oden, Przybilla

Sprinkle in some role bench players, still a decent second unit for Portland.
