    +1.

Portland needs Hinrich more than Milsap. This is just Porltand's way of forcing Utah's hand. I just hope they get more than Hinrich out of it. Hinrich for $9M in cap space is questionable to me, and when you have the upper hand you should be able to get more out. The problem is that Utah doesn't really have anything that we need (that they would give up under this scenario).

I wouldn't read anything into it one way or another. The ESPN article I linked said that Utah may just trade Boozer elsewhere for cheap in order to save the cash and not have Milsap go to a conference rival, with the definitive goal being "Anywhere but Portland".

You sure that OKC wouldn't? They have their perimeter pretty well sorted with Westbrook, Harden and Durant. What they need most is a legitimate post presence and Boozer gives them a post scorer and rebounder. It seems like they could be quite interested in Boozer.

Yea fortunately for us OKC is in the same division, so there is no incentive there either.

So what is the Blazers' preference? Force Utah to match and then trade Boozer to get us Hinrich?
Or try to get Millsap altogether for ourselves?

Or do we see both options being equally as good for us?

Re: Millsap offer official now. Sent to Utah.

Question for the CBA guys. If Portland makes a front-loaded offer ($10M; $9M; $8M; $8M) to Milsap, and Milsap signs up; is Utah stuck with that structure, or could they somehow change it? I don't think Utah can change it on their own, but what if they do a deal with the Blazers (that Milsap likes)?

I'm wondering what happens if Portland send Milsap a 10/9/8/8 offer, he signs it, then Utah give up and approves the Chicago deal. Can Utah end up with a 8/8/9/10 offer to Milsap, or are they stuck with the original Portland offer?

Apparently the offer is very front loaded with a lot of bonuses. Quick "knows" the amount but won't say. Also says it makes him the highest paid player next year for the Blazers, if he does indeed sign it.

They are stuck with the offer. It's match or bye Millsap.

I think they may look at it as a win/win. If you get Hinrich (and more I hope) then you improve. If you end up with Milsap, then you have your backup PF and a possible trade asset. At the same time you have weakened a rival team, who could easily be without a starting power forward after next season.

It doesn't sound like it is quite the poison pill the Vikings did a few years ago, but putting the money up front is the idea. The Vikings contract stated Hutchinson MUST be the highest paid offensive lineman on the team.

Even if the Blazers, Jazz and Milsap all agree to something else?

Once Millsap signs that offer sheet, the Blazers and Jazz are stuck with it. Even if they figure out another deal, the Jazz have to match the offer sheet or Portland will end up with Millsap as well.

No. You can't just willy nilly change offers.

Would that be the "toxic" element that was discussed earlier? I wonder if the Blazers actually want Millsap instead of just using this as a tactic to get Utah to make the Chicago/Portland trade (Hinrich to PDX).

I wonder if Portland is targeting BOTH players? Make the offer to Millsap so "toxic" that they cannot match, then swing a deal for Hinrich that involves Travis. The third element to this being an awesome idea is that we'd stick Utah, a division opponent, with an All-Star PF (Boozer) that is going to bolt at his first possible opportunity. What a win if we had a hand in Utah losing both guys.

You keep saying this but only OKC, Portland, and Memphis have cap space left. Memphis doesn't have enough and OKC I don't believe wants to spend their money right now. If they did they would have been able to offer as much /more than Portland could to Millsap/Lee.

Why would Memphis want Millsap? They just got Z-Ro.

I might be wrong, but if the Blazers have made an offer, they couldn't pull off a trade using their capspace at the same time, right?
