    Hello darkness, my old friend
I wasn't referring to maxiep's comments. I was referring to the rhetoric by PapaG and SodaPopinski and others that make this sound like a crisis situation.

Being frustrated over a negotiation is not particularly unusual. Kobe was "frustrated" several times. How many teams has he played for now?

Gee, no shit Ed. That's not the point though, and why wouldn't the team feel "comfortable" offering him 5 years when they are willing to offer Turkoglu 5. Explain that one.

Brandon also said that he hasn't been involved with the recruitment of any free agents because it's hard for him to reconcile advocating for a guy to come to Portland to get paid for five years when he's only guaranteed for one.

Indeed. Please forgive me. Now...what's the quote that shows Roy might be ready to hold out?

Bryant wasn't frustrated in merely getting an extension. He was frustrated at the direction of his team. To have Brandon Roy basically begging for a 5-year contract is unjustifiable. Mock me all you want to, but there is no excuse for YEARS being the issue.

I don't think people do. They are still defending KP's lack of being able to trade RLEC. They are still saying this cap is going to be useful later this year. What use is it if he completely destroys this team because of not re-extending Brandon Roy properly.

It's not bullcrap. He CANNOT leave the Blazers for the next two years unless they want him to. If he holds out then he's being an idiot because the team retains his rights.

It's all about leverage. Hedo could command a five year deal because if Portland didn't offer it to him then Toronto would. And did.

Roy has no options in the next two years. The CBA is stacked against him. If he wants to pout and stamp his feet, I don't blame him in the least--I EXPECT him to want max money and max years--and it doesn't mean that he's a bad guy or a selfish guy.

Similarly, if the Blazers are assuming a tough bargaining position TWO YEARS before he can leave? Then I don't assume that they're stupid or run by bad people. They want to control costs where they can so they can afford them where they cannot.

I never said he might be ready to hold out. I said he could hold out and demand a trade because, well, he could do that if he wanted to do that. No need to challenge me on things I never said, Minstrel.

all it took to keep Kobe in LA was a Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol trade!

    EXACTLY!

To me, if you are trying to short change him on years, it's like telling him "Well, we want to maintain flexiblity just in case you aren't all we thought you would be by 2013."

That's a fucking disgrace to say to a guy who dragged this franchise back to relevance.

If this is how the team is going to treat their top player since Clyde Drexler, why the hell would anyone want to play here? From a purely business perspective, I obviously can see the point of the Blazers. The problem is, this business doesn't make widgets, it deals with talented people, and when you insult talented people, they may look to take their talent elsewhere.

There can be only one possible explanation for Pritchard's behavior in these negotations: Vulcan Mind Meld

The thing is that it's not even the same people. I WANTED the Blazers to trade the RLEC. I WANT them to use their cap space to improve the team this summer. I'm a bit upset and worried that if we wait until the trade deadline the team will walk away emptyhanded.

But at the same time I am defending KP and the Blazers in this situation.

Blanket sarcasm and lumping a bunch of different viewpoints together isn't accurate or effective in doing anything other than making it look like you're not paying attention. :)

No one said he's going to hold out. But he said it's 50/50 that he'd sign an extension as of the moment, and he's a little "frustrated" by it. And he can't do any recruiting for FAs, and he doesn't know if he wants to if he doesn't know if he'll be around.

But Pritch knows what he's doing.

This is what happens when you give people the benefit of the doubt and don't see what they're really doing, they fuck you over.

that's if this is all true and KPs fucking this team up as we speak.

They just demonstrated they're willing to pay HEDO TURKOGLU a shitload of money... I don't think that free agents are going to be too worried about coming to Portland if the price is right.

They've re-signed Joel to a reasonable deal. They extended Webster. I don't think that in the current environment--where NO restricted free agents are getting even a sniff--players are so naive or simplistic to look at the Blazers' position and say anything other than "times are tough when even the BLAZERS are having to count their pennies".

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I didn't mock you, I think you're flying off the handle. That is, I disagree with your approach on this one...I'm not making fun of it, as far as I'm concerned.
