How do you know it's a "typical" negotiation? I'm curious to see what statement Roy puts out next week. "Frustrated" is one thing, but texting he is "disappointed" is quite another.

I, as a Portland fan, reserve the right to respond to any news regarding my favorite team in any way I see fit.

If Roy ends up leaving Portland, then I will stop watching basketball altogether. So yeah, I would stop posting here.

A small silver lining if Roy leaves.

Issac on 1080 nailed it I think....

We all know a deal will eventually get done with Brandon Roy. He'll get the max, period.

So, why are we risking hurt feelings by feuding with him in this contract issue?

I would when the franchise player is willing to sign for five in a low cap year. I'd go so far as to call it an insult, and apparently Roy may feel that way as well.

Seems like it is Paul Allen's fault for the mayhem

I don't know that it is typical. I said "Even if it is typical?" as a question, asking whether it's sickening even if turns out to be standard.

It may not be typical. Maybe Pritchard/Allen/Vulcan (one or all) is just being a dick to Roy (no sarcasm, who knows). But without that information, it seems a bit odd to be sickened. Roy is disappointed. Presumably, if he and Portland come to an agreement, he will no longer be disappointed. It's okay for one or both parties to be disappointed at some point in the negotiations. It's bad if they don't reconcile. I expect they will.

The best explanation I've seen is how it impacts the LMA extension, but that doesn't make sense. Why insult your franchise player in order to soften the blow for LMA?

I also saw someone bring up the point the maybe this Vulcan company is the one behind the Darius Miles fiasco.

I know it's always fun to take our fav. players side and hate on management...

but the fact Roy gets no criticism here is total bullshit.

"I can't help recruit because I'm not sure of my future?"

No, you're unsure of the last five million at the last year of your contract, not where you will be playing for the next few years.

It's embarrassing that people are taking Roy's words as gospel and not as just more posterings/misdirection from his side.

Yeah, it is jerking him around. They offered Hedo 5 years, but Roy only 4. Were I Roy, I would probably be offended by that.

Any other player on the team. Hell, any other Blazer in the last 20 years and I would not feel the same way.

Honestly, I get a bit choked up every time Roy is announced at games. I have for the last three years. Just thinking about watching Roy play brings a smile to my face.

I believe he pretty much singlehandedly saved this team and brought it back to what it had been. I just don't think it is acceptable to treat a guy who did that any way other then the best way possible.

Drag out negotiations with LA if you have to make some savings. Trade other players for 10 cents on the dollar to save a penny or two.

But you don't fuck with the B-Roy.

As a Blazer fan regardless of what happens, at least I've secured a silver lining to a bad (if unlikely) scenario.

It's not okay to jerk with Brandon.

I just happen to believe that we're not jerking with him, and I just happen to believe that Brandon feels the same way I feel.

They weren't in the same positions. UFAs have more leverage than players who can't be UFA for two more seasons. Factoring in leverage is standard and not an insulting thing, even for franchise players.

Fair enough, if this is a purely emotional reaction. I just don't think the Blazers are out of line in handling an extension like business...but then, I don't have the same emotional connection to Roy that you apparently do. To me, he's just a great performer on my favourite team.

There is no way he could have listened to the interview, or the commentary on the text that Wheeler received from Roy after the interview.

No, you don't. You're not allowed to have any emotional reaction over having your favorite team negotiating what should be a no-brainer of a contract to its franchise player.
In fact, when you're at games next season.. you can't cheer or boo during the game. Wait until the end of the game when you know the team has lost or won, then you can celebrate or jeer.

Twice. Sure, Brandon's not thrilled, and he's a little disappointed that he didn't get what he wanted right away, but it's not like he's all butt-hurt about it. I guaran-goddamn-tee you that there will be no hard feelings in either direction once a contract is inked.

I haven't seen anything about a text, got a link?

And I listened to the interview twice, it sounded to me like his agent gave him his talking points.
