The New York Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 10-6. Starting for the Yankees was Joba Chamberlain and he got the no decision. Mark Melancon got the loss. I thought Joba Chamberlain was going to cruise through this game especially through the 5th inning until A-Rod threw Tex off the bag with a throw that set up the Kendry Morales home run. The Yankees were up 5-2 to that point. After the home run, it was tied. Joba Chamberlain is not a good starting pitcher right now. Good starting pitchers don’t average a little over five innings per start. Sure, Alex Rodriguez made an error that allowed a base runner but you have to pick up your teammates. If an error is going to spook you then you are not a major league pitcher. Joba Chamberlain is giving the Yankees no quality, no length, no ability to hold leads and no consistency whatsoever. He keeps making the same mistakes over and over again and keeps giving up a lot of hits and a lot of runs. The home run to Morales was a hanging curveball up in the zone. Joba Chamberlain doesn’t have the mental toughness to be a starter. He crumbles at the first sign of trouble. This was the second straight start he couldn’t hold a four run lead and couldn’t make it past five innings. He usually can’t make it out of the fifth inning without throwing over 100 pitches and his 90 mph average fastball isn’t good enough to get guys out at this level. He will usually try to strike batters out that have two strikes on them with a slider because he has no confidence in his fastball and only has an average curve ball and change up. You can say it loud and clear if you want… Joba back to the bull pen. Joe Girardi said in the post game interview that he took Melancon out of the game for Bruney because he liked the match up better. It made no sense because Melancon had two outs and Bruney sucks. Well Bruney walked a batter and then gave up a three run home run. I’m telling you, Brian Bruney just sucks and shouldn’t even be on the Yankee roster. The thing that worries me is that the Angels beat the Yankees with small ball and continue to win with bloop singles, going to third from first on a bloop single and stealing bases. This is a team I do not want the Yankees to see in the playoffs. It’s a recipe for disaster. Player of the Game: Los Angeles Angel Kendry Morales. He made the Yankees pay for their fifth inning blunder.
