Why would I think he is a god for getting a 9 million dollar bench player? Even with Milsap, KP would not have addressed the point guard situation or gotten a player that can create for themselves. Milsap is nice, I guess. Much like the Hedo deal, it doesn't exactly thrill me. So KP would have done something ok with the money, but nothing Earth shaking. No shame in it, but certainly not fantastic. And certainly not the team changing move KP thought he would be able to do this off season.
Um no I said it would make it so not painful to stomach the year of being over the cap. None of the bullshit you just went off on was even mentioned. I don't even know what you think your going off on here. I didn't even imply it was a suprise. What I was implying was that a owner who is based in the auto business that is struggling, it would make it much easier to sign them if you knew 6 million dollars was coming in the door. I really didn't say anything different. So whats bullshit now?
Yup, exactly. This isn't an unexpected windfall, it was an expected revenue (and one Utah won't get next year if they match and can't find a taker for Boozer). Utah has a good chance of matching, but I don't think it is guaranteed.
The point is, it doesn't change anything, because it's not new. You outright stated that it was now less painful for Utah to match due to that. That doesn't seem at all likely, because they had likely incorporated this money (or a similar figure) into their budget long ago. So it is exactly as "painful" now to match as it was a week or two ago.
If Oden or Joel get hurt, a very real possibility given their histories, you will feel a lot more thrilled. If Joel elects to opt out of his contract at the end of the season and finds a team that will pay and play him like a starter, you will feel a lot more thrilled. You might even feel a bit of a thrill the next time we aren't forced to have Outlaw guard a PF that can bulldoze right over him. IF we actually land Millsap, it won't be the best case scenario - but it will be a solid move to make us stronger at the power positions. (unless you REALLY have faith in Pendergraph becoming the sleeper of the 09 draft)
Utah is matching there isn't a question in my mind. Like some other people posted we could have made a better offer but I still think Utah would have matched. If your the Jazz you just can't let Millsap go no matter what. I think our offer is market value on Millsap and Utah would have eventually had to make that high of an offer to get him to sign anyway.
Utah isn't under tha cap... they wouldn't get any of the tax money... the Blazers do/will though. Isn't the 'toxic' part of their contact due to 1) they have 10 days to pay the front loaded bonus 10 mill? and 2) they have to pay lux tax on that 10 mill... so it really costs them 20 mill? I don't think it is a given they match... even though that appears to be what we are hearing. I also think the way we put that offer together was a bit like the Miles signing. Questionable. Within the rules sure... but it can't make people want to try to work with Portland.
And getting a loan that quick for that much isn't a piece o cake. Didn't the NBA already have to offer teams loans because some of them were having trouble coming up with the money through regular markets? So yeah... they probably do get the money in time if they want it. But add interest to that loan and it gets even worse.
we did have a poll where posters overwhelmingly voted that they thought Utah would match probably in part because thats been their public claim all along. Saying something ad nausea doesn't give a poster clairvoyant status like stepping out a little further on a limb might STOMP
