Conflicting Rumours Over Lyon Star Juninho’s Future

It was confirmed earlier this week that last weekend’s fixture between Olympique Lyonnais and Caen would be Juninho’s last for les Gones, however, where the Brazilian midfielder is to ply his trade next term is not clear, with some sources suggesting that he will make a move to the Middle East while others point to a switch back to his homeland.

Aujourd'hui Sport believes that a deal with an unnamed UAE based club could be concluded as early as the weekend as ‘Juni’ is set for a meeting in Dubai on Saturday, when Lyon play their concluding Ligue 1 game of the season against Toulouse – a fixture he is suspended from.

Meanwhile, the other hot rumour is that the 34-year-old could move to Sao Paulo, who have confirmed their interest in the player. Several sources, including Ouest-France, have suggested this is a real possibility, but this whisper is not as widespread as the chain linking him to the UAE.

Jose Fuentes, the player’s agent, explained to L’Equipe that nothing is decided, hinting that there may even be offers for the 34-year-old from the USA and Japan. “We’re not under pressure,” he said. “In Brazil, some sources are saying Al-Shabab while others are saying Sao Paulo.

“I can assure you, nothing is decided between Japan, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil. We will reflect on it quietly.”

Juninho’s season in Lyon may have been relatively low-key in that the Brazilian did not hit his best form and the team were largely considered to have underperformed, however, he will be fondly remembered at the Stade Gerland, where many have been moved to declare him as the club’s greatest ever player. Juni finished on a mini-high, scoring his 100th goal for OL last weekend as he helped them assure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

He would be the top player in MLS if he was to move here in the states. That's what I think. ;)

Easily, but that would sort of put a stamp on the end of his career. It's a shame that the MLS gives players this mentality, but Beckham seemed to of gotten over it.

Yeah, I just saw that Ljungberg moved to MLS as well (seattle), he used to be a great player.

Yep, his career was always marred by injury though. He was always out for something.

Juninho would dominate the MLS since is really rubbish. But Juninho gave his number to Miralem Pjanic the 19 year old Bosnian sensation and Lyon gave Pjanic the free kick job also for the whole season I'm very happy what Juninho did for him and Pjanic said he helped him a lot on his game on the pitch which I'm really looking forward to see how he does.

Not at all. Sometimes people have really good arguments and they'll completely change my views on a subject. If you say Arsenal are shit for no reason then I'll be biased but if you back it up with a good explanation I'll actually think about it.

I'm like that also, but what as I being bias about? You could have at least gave me a good explanation so I can change my bias ways of thinking as you so call.

I wouldn't have called it a bias, as much as it was being a blind hater of all things US-soccer and feeling a need to post silly anti-US/MLS comments every chance you get.

What the hell are you talking about? I said Juninho would be the best player in MLS history that ever stepped foot from Europe so yeah I don't know what your problem is.

LMAO, Mixx. Think about your responses before you post them. I just find it funny how you call Pjanic a "sensation." Was that really needed? :p

You need to read it carefully because I clearly said "Bosnian Sensation" and in practice Lyon claim he is doing great, he is scoring goals and getting a lot of assists, and he is only 19 years old so that makes him an sensation.
