PF is going to be an adventure for the bulls this year.

You realize it was Tim Thomas who was bought out, right?

    Not Tyrus.

Lakers better not make the same mistake twice and just sign this guy.

Last time he got bought out, Suns signed him to the vet min and he comes into the playoffs and hits a crucial shot to destroy our hopes of an upset.

    Those were fun times :]

I'm shocked, are you expecting Tyrus to be a rock solid, steady contributor from day one right through the playoffs?

I expect we're going to play him ~40/night and no matter what he does, we'll be watching him walk for nothing after renouncing him.

I didn't expect Tim Thomas to get much burn, if any. I don't see how losing him would make our PF situation an adventure.

Tyrus Thomas is one of the few guys that the bulls have consistently denied playing 40 min/night no matter what. I'll be shocked if they start doing it next year.

They played Crawford 40 MPG his RFA season, and Gordon 40 MPG (many games) his UFA season. There's a pattern, albeit a small sample. It sure fits management's overall style.

The article says it helped the Bulls get enough under the LT to sign Hunter. How did that work?

I'm psyched the Bulls decided to buy out Thomas. He was dead weight. And this will allow the Bulls to give more minutes to Michael Sweetney, Victor Khryapa and Thabo Sefolosha. All is looking up.

Thomas agreed to take less than the amount he was owed so he could go to another team and play instead of sitting on the bench in Chicago.

You know, the same thing all those veterans who are only about the money do.

I didn't realize his full salary doesn't count against the cap. The benefit of the buyout is twofold: 1) recovered a roster spot, 2) less outlay.

Seems like a major fuck up if they cut a $6M expiring down to $1M with a cheap buyout.

I doubt he gave up more than $1-2 million.

Lakers did the same with Brian Grant.

Lakers don't talk year after year about cap flexibility. The roster spot was worth more to them than a few bucks.
