I still like Sessions, he and Blake could be a nice PG combo. I'd either offer him a little over the MLE and see if MIL matches, or try to work out a sign and trade. Heck, I would offer Bayless for Sessions as we have the cap to do it. Sessions makes Bayless easily expendable, I might even throw in Webs or TO to get it done. I think a Blake/Sessions combo would be a good one and perhaps the best we can do at PG, maybe even a better "combo" then Hinrich. And do note if we did TO/Bayless for Sessions we actually would likely the same if not more capspace still available
There's a reason the Bucks didn't extend a qualifying offer to Charlie Villaneuva and traded Richard Jefferson for a plate of hot garbage, and it wasn't to balk if a team offered Ramon a deal slightly above the MLE (which is the MLE his first season due to the Gilbert Arenas provision in the CBA). I like him, but I just don't see KP being all that interested in adding youth through free agency, especially since he seems to be so high on Jerryd.
Disagree, Sessions has already proved he can play point fairly well and is young and can improve, Bayless has not. They have similar skill sets and Sessions can really take it to the hoop but his passing is far superior to Bayless - so why keep both? Better to have a solid vet like Blake who can hit the outside shot and has a perfect complimentary skillset to Sessions. I am not at all sold on Bayless and that he can be the PG we need, Sessions has proven himself to a much higher degree, it's also good value for MIL IMO..
I can't help wondering if our apparent lack of interest in Sessions is a bit of sour grapes because we could have had him, and apparently KP wanted him, but (supposedly) Nate lobbied for Taureen "win us 2 or 3 games by himself" Green over him. It must irk to have to pay big chunks for a player we could've had so easily. But I agree with the comment about him making Bayless more redundant than Blake. In fact, Sessions and Blake are almost diametric opposites. Don't know about Sessions' defense, though.
I think our lack of interest in any PG is surprising. Blake is piss poor at everything except shooting the 3, and Bayless isn't ready. Yet all the Blazers have done so far is go after fowards. It just seems odd to me.
Blake doesn't turn the ball over either. I'm not a blake defender. He gets the most out of his skills playing with Roy. I think we should explore a sign and trade. I wonder if KP as any interest. I don't remember any rumors about him linked to Portland.
Well, the depressing interpretation is that Nate and the Brass are (a) Happy with Blake for now, and (b) think Bayless really can be the PG of the future. The optimistic interpretation is that they've got a trade lined up for when they finally either sign a FA or give up on it. Also depressing is how good Collison and Beaubois are looking in Summer League.
Ya, I really don't get why the brass is so happy with Blake. Yes, he is a good shooter, and doesn't turn the ball over, but he doesn't try to crate anything either. Steve Nash turns the ball over all the time, but it's because he is putting the defense on it's heels. Blake is also very poor at feeding the post either on a straight feed, or P&R. Blake, to me, seems like the perfect guy to come off the bench for a team and guide the offense because he won't "lose" the game for you. Also, if you look at the final 4 NBA teams, 3 pt shooting wasn't nearly as important it seems as FTA. Blake is really bad in that area.
I'd be happy getting Sessions, though at this point, I'd rather get Odom- he can start at the 3 and slide over to the 4 at times. Better passing than Turkey, good ball handling and pretty decent defense.
I agree, but it seems that KP and Nate highly value outside shooting from their PG, otherwise we'd be looking at Sessions or Andre Miller.
