According to which stats? Last season, Basketball Prospectus found three-point shooting to be one of the most correlated stats to winning.
Sessions seems to be our last priority, or not even a priority at all for us. I don't think overpaying for Sessions is a good plan right now when the Millsap thing falls through.
Considering Sessions is an above average point guard with plenty of upside left, due to his age, I don't think Portland can overpay him (considering they're restricted to around $8 million starting salary). He's already a better player than Turkoglu, is on the way up and he plays a position of need. One reason that I don't think the Blazers have made him an offer is because Milwaukee is almost certain to match. With Utah, it may not have been an entirely hopeless situation, with Milwaukee it does seem to be. I would, however, talk to Milwaukee about a sign & trade.
I should have been more clear, sorry. I took last years final 4 NBA teams and looked what all of them did during the regular season better than most teams. FTA seemed to be a constant. I am not saying that 3pt shooting isn't important though because it is. Maybe just not from our PG?
See if they want to do a S&T. If not, then make a big offer, and if they match, fine. If not, we have a PG. Sessions was the ONLY player this summer that I wanted Portland to get. He'll be a first-rate PG in this league. iWatas
If the Jazz match, they should go and offer all of their remaining cap space and front load the contract for Sessions. He would make our starting 5 so much better. I just really want a point guard who can get into the lane and drop off to Oden and Aldridge. He would make this team so much better.
Sessions had a PER last year of 17.7. Devin Harris at the same age had the same PER (17.5). If we are going to take a gander at an above-average point guard, with remaining upside, he would be perfect. iWatas
Unfortunately, Sessions' contract can't be front loaded due to the Gilbert Arenas provision. Without renouncing Koponen or Freeland, the Blazers have $7.7m in cap space. $7.7m * 5 years = the maximum contract the Blazers can offer Sessions is 5 year $38.5m. That contract would have to start out at $5.5m, so the Bucks are likely to match.
In that case.. I think we can let the idea of Sessions go, unless they S&T with us, and give we give them something they want. I don't think they want to go into the season with Ridnour and Jennings at PG, unless we gave them Bayless or something which I doubt.
