Cunningham is better than Outlaw, right now.

That is the whole problem with your philosophy. There is no "deserved minutes". The only minutes you get are when the coaching staff thinks the lineup gives the team the best chance to win. Now the other thing is, they don't have to necessarily take each others time. I have seen many team play 2 tweeners at the same time, and that way they can interswitch on O and D. Both can play the 3 and 4. I wouldn't be surprised to see them both out there at once.

Marcus Camby was trade due to his contract, not his talent level. Outlaw has a pretty reasonable contract. My point is that you are saying that a player
(after watching essentially everything at Villanova, 2 Summer League games, and anything else you could find on youtube) is better than Outlaw. If he is better than Outlaw, he deserved to be drafted in the 1st round. I just think that GM's probably have a better gauge on his skills and talent than any of us fans do. That's all. I think Outlaw is worth more than a 2nd round pick, so sorry, I got to disagree with you on this one. Cunningham will not contribute more to the team this year than Outlaw, assuming Outlaw is on the team.

Comparing a future star to a previous star happens all the time, you know how it is. I don't think that is nearly the same as comparing a 2nd round draft pick to a role player, that is not nearly as big as "statement".

I disagree because Travis Outlaw should have never been drafted in the first round. Any player who takes 6 years to become an average (or below average) player should not have been drafted in the first round. But teams make mistakes all the time. Otherwise, why would there be 1st round busts that never even make it in the league, or wash out?

Before the draft, maybe this argument could have been made, but I don't think you can judge players now based on where they were picked. I get that we've only seen him twice and it might be too early to make a sound argument in favor of DC, but he showed some very positive traits on the basketball floor in both of his games. Good fundamentals on both offense and defense, adequate athleticism, and confidence. It's not too far fetched to think he's smarter than Travis now, either.

Yes, but the OP is saying that a 2nd rounder after 2 Summer League games is better than Travis Outlaw RIGHT NOW. After playing 2 summer league games. I love the enthusiasm, but let's get real. If he really was that good he would have been drafted in the 1st round.

Again, this is opinion. Not fact. You are trying to say your opinion is fact. You are doing it wrong.

Outlaw was the 23rd pick in his draft. Cunningham was 33rd. That is 10 picks dude lol. And Travis has no business being a 1st rounder. He has been in the league for 6 years and still is mediocre.

    You fail.

No because you are denying reality. In a logical world where everybody doesn't make mistakes, sure you make sense. But that is not reality. The reality is, teams make mistakes, some players project better than others, and some players are hidden because of the system they play in. So once you come to terms with that, it is easy to see how it happens. This isnt' a "perfect science". It is was, nobody would fuck up a draft pick, ever, and to be honest, the draft would be as boring as hell.

    Bravo. Very insightful.

At least say something clever if you are not going to contribute to the thread.

Your argument, you know, the one you keep trying to use and fail again at... is wrong. You are putting too much stock in where the player was drafted. Not how he plays.

Michael Olowakandi was the #1 pick a few years back. Is he better than Vince Carter, who was drafted after him?

Kwame Brown was the #1 pick. Is he better than Gilbert Arenas who was picked in the 2nd round of that draft?

Yeah. So what do you say about that?

I'm not sure what that poster would say, but using the above as supporting evidence when comparing Outlaw against a guy who doesn't even have an NBA contract seems foolish.

Thus, this is a foolish thread, but I'm sure it served its purpose for you. :)

Yeah, and? My opinion is comparing the skills of 2 NBA players. His opinion is that a 2nd round draft pick is NEVER EVER better than a 1st round pick.
