I've often seen Bosh referred to as being soft on many forums by fans of other teams. I've seen a fair amount of Raptors games and I wouldn't call him soft. He needs to be a more aggressive at times and not settle on jumpers, but I've found he does drive in the paint, post up and uses his body on D. I'd like to see him grab at least 1 more rebound per game on a poor rebounding team (-1.5 differential which is bottom third in the league), but 10 rpg is not the work of a soft player. So I wanted to hear from you gusy, does Chris Bosh get an unfair label as being soft or is he too soft for a PF?
No, not really. Vince Carter used to settle for long jumpers because he was soft. Chris Bosh does it because his game isn't well-rounded enough and, if opponent's take the drive away, he has nothing else. He's really suffered from having an idiotic coach during his development phase. It's led him to pick up bad habits defensively, and resign himself to a fairly one-dimensional offensive game. I often wonder what kind of player he'd be if he had started his career on the Spurs or Pistons.
chris is not only soft, he's a certifiable pussy. just ask KG and Rasheed who routinely bully the kid so much so that he launches 22 footers in their presence instead of driving. and his mental toughness has been questioned of late as a consequence of his inability to deliver in the clutch.
Haven't seen a ton of him but I would say he is kinda soft. A lot of it probably has to do with the fact that people had expectations of him to be a franchise player after his first few years in the league. At this point I don't think anyone sees him in that light because Toronto has been a losing team despite being in a crappy (albeit top heavy) conference and having pretty good talent. That's not entirely his fault because the Raps seem to lack any quality depth, are usually weak at two starting positions, have crappy head coaches, etc. but at the same time Bosh has played with some good players and has little success to show for it. I haven't seen a ton of him throughout his career but my general perception of him is that hes a really nice scorer but settles for the perimeter too much. His rebounding seems to be up and down every year and I don't think of him as a good defender. Used to think he was going to be a franchise guy, now I view him as a Pau Gasol type- if hes your #1 guy like Pau was with the Grizz, your team will be lucky to make the playoffs and surely won't advance, but he'd be an excellent #2 guy on a great team like Pau on the Lakers. So is he soft? I dunno, wouldn't exactly say hes soft but if you're talking elite level PFs hes probably the softest one out there except perhaps Nowitzki (Nowitzki has been an MVP, been to the finals, and been the #1 guy on great teams though).
Haven't seen too much to comment, but Shaq called him the Rupaul of big men. lol I also remember the one game against the Lakers where he was completely shut down by Bynum. He couldn't do anything offensively.
He is more of a finesse big man rather than a banger - and he doesn't really block many shots or intimidate on defense, so if that is your definition of soft, then yes. How about we call him a Euro big man instead?!
Yeah, but the franchise is as much to blame as he is. You gotta think that had he been drafted by the Pistons he'd be a better defensive player and a tougher player today.
but darko is a mental midget. chris is a superb player, lets not allow is lack of ballz obscure us from the truth of his ability to put up 20 ppg and 10 boards consistently. i say instead of surrounding him around with euro's, we should surround him with tough as nails ballers. remember how grunwald surround vince carter with AD, Oakley and Chris Childs? those guys obscured his cowardice and heightened his greatness.
But VC was infinitely more talented back then, than Bosh currently is. I think people mistake his one-dimensional game for softness. He might be a finesse big man, but he makes his living by getting into the paint, drawing contact, and getting to the line. In his first couple years as a number one option (when he had no supporting help), he took a beating. These days he doesn't settle for jumpshots because he's afraid of the contact. He does it because he's denied the drive and hasn't developed any other facets to his game. When teams don't defend him honestly or he has a long athletic defender on him, he hoists up jumpers hoping that if he gets enough in, they'll have to come up to meet him (where he can beat them easily). The only time I really remember him pussying out is when Garnett got in his face talking shit, and he just stood there and took it (while playing crappily).
I disagree. He makes his living by stepping away for jump shots. When he does go into the paint he doesn't look to finish strong, just to draw and embellish contact for free throws. Sheed has also completely taken him out of a game in the past and embarrassed him.
I think that's where his game has unintentionally developed. He's always used the jumpshot to set up his drive, but eventually teams starting realizing that he can't beat them with his jumpshot, while he can with the drive. I don't think its meant to be the focal point of his game, but it has become that because he's refused to develop some sort of a back-to-the-basket game. Seriously, I don't get why he hasn't developed some sort of a low post game yet. At the very least he could use a jump hook. He's got the touch, the size/height, and the strength to pull it off. All he'd have to do is set up 5 feet out, turn around, and put up the shot. It'd do wonders to his game. Sheed and Garnett consistently own Bosh. Boston is going to kill us this year.
fuck.. miki moore and collins owned bosh in the playoffs. the only elite big man ive seen him play well against is tim duncan and he's probably the best out of the bunch which leads me to believe he's a certifiable pussy as aforementioned.
