Actually you are wrong. It has been shown time and time again with great centers you don't need a pass first PG. You need guys that will pass, period. Was Hakeem Olajuan's PG pass first? Not even close. How about Shaq's first trip in Orlando? Nickel Hardaway was far from pass first. How about when Ewing was in NY? Well his PG were Greg Anthony (who is considered a defensive specialist) and Derek Harper who was offensive minded. How about Shaq with Derek Fisher. Is Derek Fisher pass first? Or is he a body who plays defense and does whatever is asked offensively. I definitly wouldn't call him pass first.

Secondly, no pass first PG have won the finals since Avory Johnson was PG of the Spurs. Go through the years. Jason Kidd made it to the finals, but didn't win. Besides that, not a whole lot of pass first PG even making it to the finals, let alone winning it.

The reason being, at the championship level, in order to beat the best defenses everybody has to be able to score. That is why Portland lost in the first round, but LA was able to beat Houston in the next round. They had more scorers on the floor. They had more weapons so Houstons defense couldn't concentrate on individual players.

Well, I guess I see how you feel about it. Couldn't possibly disagree more strongly with ya. Thanks for your valued and nuanced criticism.

One does not deserved valued and "nuanced criticism" after the 5th explanation, let alone the 10th or 15th.

And what was the explaination? I can't recall hearing a single good reason why not to do it if we added someone like Lee. "Never trade Big for small!" Glad we passed on the CP3 for Frye trade! Oh wait that one doesn't hold any water if you are getting good value. 6.5 million for a backup single position player playing 12 minutes a game is stupid.

I see that a number of people don't like the idea but I tell you what. If you put that trade on the Houston board I bet there would be GREATER opposition to the idea then there is here. I know every Houston fan I've talked to has said "Your dreaming we'd never give up Battier for so little". In fact I'm going to do just that and put up a post just so Ed can vomit on his cat and punch his LCD. I like the idea of LCD shards in his knuckles given that he's so darn friendly.

Unlike Joel who is a career backup Battier has value in this league. If Oden is playing 38 minutes and we have another two solid big men (LMA and Lee/Millsap) a game we're fools to keep Przybilla.

I love all the ultra harsh even nasty criticism but I've yet to see a decent Basketball related reason to not do that trade under those circumstances. People are the most ridiculous homers I've ever seen on this board. That's why all the trades that are so lauded around here are laughed off the fucking board by fans of other teams.

Suit yourselves, I bet dollars to doughnuts that if we add Lee, then Joel is gone and probably for someone *gasp* small!

Greg Oden is a beast of a man, ready to unleash hell on the rest of the NBA. He’s a rebounding vacuum. He’s a shot-blocking, missile defense system that the Pentagon would be envious of.

Reason most people hate this idea of yours: they don't value Battier NEARLY as much as you. Of course trading Joel makes sense if we got Lee, but not for Shane Fucking Battier. And I'm not sure they're in too big of a hurry to get Yao a replacement, since they just paid 2 mill for the rights to David Andersen, the 29-year-old Aussie 7-footer veteran center from Barcelona who they helped buy out from Real Madrid for another 500k, then gave him a 3yr 7.5M contract.

Honestly, what do you expect? Sorry, but it's in every second post you write, not surprised that people are puking over cats and crushing LCDs by now over it.

So why does Houston do Battier for Przybilla?

Because they just signed Ariza and they don't have a center? It makes more sense for them than it does for us.

Any write-ups outside of Twitter feeds? Sounds like Oden is at the very least getting some mobility back.

Defense and rebounding. That's what the Blazers need from him. If he provides that consistently, the team jumps immediately into contender status.

But Joel isn't going to help them do anythign this season. Battier is a solid SF that could really help a contender. If they were to move him, it would make more sense to get youth back in a deal, as opposed to a 30 year old C who can opt out of his deal after the season.

Is this thread about Oden at the Mini-camp, or is it about a trade that will never, ever happen?

I think we should let Joel come off the books so we can get more super valuable cap space.

I mean, look at what has been done with it this year.

Rondo is a shoot first PG? He averages even less shots per minute then Jason Kidd.
