Re: The Goods Thread (Kobe calls Buss to bring back Odom, Update: Pg 11)

I'd rather have more money upfront (the Lakers offer) versus less money, but a longer contract. Stupid is what stupid does.

I heard Odom called the Lakers to ask for the offer back. LOL.

Because it is the best he'll get and I bet they will give it back to him.

    From the same article ...

He's been a bust, but the "Landlord" can defend the rim and play some productive minutes at the PF/C position. I'd prefer Marvin Williams, Joe Smith or Drew Gooden ahead of him.

I wonder if Chris Mihm is still being considered?

Meh, we'll get a deal done for Odom. If the talks are productive I don't see the need to worry about that yet.

Re: Odom Offer Could Be Less

I think Jerry is just penny pinching here. He knows LO has no other realistic options besides us. Miami could be an option, but I've heard mixed reports, some saying that they still haven't even offered him a contract. If they have offered him a contract, and he wanted to be in Miami, he would've signed already. LO wants to be back, on his terms. Lakers management wants him to be back, on their terms. I think it's just a matter of who budges first.

I'm hoping we retain him but this waiting is pissing me off. Hopefully something gets done soon. According to some reports, a decision should be made this week. Doubt that happens.

Can't say I'm a fan of the penny pinching... It's not my money and we're not going to have cap space either way. I'd like to see this be over already, get him the 36-40 million for 4 years and call it a day.

He won't sign with Miami. If he wanted to be there, he would have signed by now.

I say reduce the offer for being stupid.

He's got the Trevor Card, and I've got a house in Miami card. Not enough for him to get all his demands but just get it done already. We're going to sign him to 3-4 years it won't affect us at all.

At the end of the day, if he doesn't feel the offers are good enough, he could still bolt for Miami...

But I think at this point, his obviously #1 choice is LA.

Re: Odom Offer Could Be Less

If we try to give him that 3/24 deal again that would be a joke. I think that was a low offer either way you look at it, at least offer him 4 years at 8 million from the start (maybe it got put on the table later though). I don't see why we need to lower our offer, just get him the 4/36 he wants, stay at that and he'll take it.

Where did 3/24 come from? ESPN reported 3/27, and LA times reported 3/30 or 3/33 (buyout)

Why give him an offer he already rejected? Plus, Buss doesn't want to commit 4 years. The only guaranteed part of that deal was 3/$33. If he wants 4 years, lower the salary. 4/32.

Re: Odom Offer Could Be Less

At the start when it was said we offered a little north of 8 million, then it went to a bit north of 9 million. I could see how that could be a lame deal. Once it got to 3/30 I thought it was pretty good though. Stay at around that.
