I ask this in light of recent events surrounding a poster being threatened by another. If someone is so disruptive to the community, should they be removed for the overall health of the community? We can debate thin and thick skin, but if we tolerate trolling and baiting then we essentially set the stage for negative behavior. I would also make a reference to the OT forum here, I mean we have serious disagreements in that forum yet they remain civil for the most part. I have written things in the OT forum that were not very nice, and have had some things written about me that were not very nice. For example I believe that Maxie does not want me dead, nor do I want any harm to come to him. I believe that the mods are here to work for the community, and their actions should be based on the views of the community. So I am putting up this poll to see how the community feels about holding votes to remove certain members of the community, or perhaps putting a "probation" system in place based on a vote from the community. We all know what the O-Live forum is like, and I think we can agree that we don't want that here.
It's a public forum, so for all intents and purposes, it's a right. Besides, agree with him or not, he didn't do anything wrong. The idiot who attacked him did, and that person is the one that should be banned. If you don't like someone's posts then put them on ignore.
I do have him on ignore, but that is not the point. The point is that in a strong forum community the ignore button would not be needed. If over half the forum population have someone on ignore, what is their value to the community?
A privilege. I am new to this whole chat room thing. This is the only place I do it. I am a very social person and have never had any problems making friends in the real world. I assume that people type on here the same way they talk or treat people while not on a computer. If you are a social retard off a computer, you probably are on it!
I voted for probation btw, I think peer pressure can be a positive. If someone realizes that most people think they are a jerk, they are more likely to change their behavior or they will increase it and reveal their inability to be part of the community.
Some people need to step away from the computer and take a walk sometimes. Honestly - it's an internet message board.
Their value is to those who haven't put them on Ignore. A "strong community," IMO, is one that isn't threatened by someone who is merely annoying but not rules-breaking, especially when each individual is given the tool (Ignore feature) to filter out posters he/she doesn't want to read. All communities have elements that many consider annoying, but most just ignore/avoid (depending on the context of the community) those individuals. That's my view, and it has been as both a moderator and a non-moderator on forums.
Who's to say the poster doesn't support the site by purchasing items from the ads? That would technically make that poster more valuable to the community than someone who didn't......Wouldn't it? And the one thing to remember is that the community was set up for the fans, not the other way around. The ignore feature is there for a reason. If someone wants attention by posting certain things, and no one responds to it then they will stop. Same with my children. If they whine about something they get ignored, so they don't do it much.
I'm happy out relationship will never be awkward by one of us actually liking the other one. I have been worried about it for some time now
Sug, I mock your value system. You also appear foolish to the eyes of others. Past instances in which I professed to like you were fraudulent.
When it comes to forums like this if you're not pissing someone off you're not participating correctly.
I can see it now. After LMA is signed Soda will put a picture of himself in his sig. Hey, it seems to work right?
I agree with this. People get too sensitive and take things too serious online. If someone is threatening you online and you are freaking out about it, you need to step away from the computer for a little bit. Seriously. It is ONLINE. What on Earth would you do if someone threatened you in real life, if you are scared of someone online?! Good Lord lol seriously. Grow a pair and get over it.
So wait, you made this post. And it was YOU that someone is threatening?! lol wow, unreal. You really, really need to step away from the computer man. Seriously. You have a problem.
