ESPN and yahoo says the deal is official, Toronto star says no no its not official yet. But according to my little research this trade is only to give raps more flexibility in 2010! both player's contract expires at the end of season. Source So basically the way I see it with the moves of hedo, jjack, bargs'(extension) I think BC thinks Bosh is leaving. If he does leave its not a bad idea because raps might be able to get a guy like Amare. If he stays raps will be the same...
If BC thought Bosh was leaving, he'd have traded him already. IMO, Colangelo thinks he has strong chance of re-signing Bosh. The rest of these moves aimed at cap flexibility in 2011 are just him hedging his bets and preparing an escape plan if things fall through.
Yeah if/when Bosh opts out we will have some flexibility. However stars are acquired via trade or sign-and-trade. They can get more money and a longer contract that way. Teams with ample cap space are not just going to be able to up and sign whoever.
So Amir Johnson is the piece of the puzzle that's going to replace Bosh? Come on man. This is a move to bolster our front court, and add more depth. BC is doing everything he can to produce a team that will have a successful season, and hopefully based on that he'll be able to retain Bosh.
He's right, Kaz. You got to keep this move in context. The salary we're sending out is minimum (Ukic) or non-existent (Delfino), so cap space isn't a big motivation in this one. And Amir isn't some gamebreaking acquisition. After they lost Ben Wallace, the Pistons fully anticipated Amir Johnson and Jason Maxiell growing into starting frontcourt roles. Maxiell did. Johnson never really developed his offensive game and cut down on his fouling enough to do the same. He was beat out by Kwame Brown of all people. I like his potential and athleticism (and the price was right), but he's a reclamation project right now.
What? in which part do u get that from my statement? I said his contract comes off the books at the end of season! where da hell did i say his replacing bosh :S ? I clearly wrote BOTH contracts expire so raps are VERY unlikely to waive either player!!!!! I dont understand why raps fan want bosh, BOSH IS OVERRATED AND JUST SUCKS! Al jefferson is better then him!
I think he wrote "If he does leave its not a bad idea because raps might be able to get a guy like Amare" no one is saying "Amir Johnson is the piece of the puzzle that's going to replace Bosh"
Even that statement seems a bit overblown. Roko's salary is peanuts. We're actually taking on more salary in this trade, only to have most of it expire after this year. So the net gain when it comes to cap flexibility is negligible.
