I disagreed with him on almost every issue, but it's a sad day for the Senate and for the Kennedy family. RIP.
Yeah, that sucks. I hope it wasn't too painful, my grandpa died of cancer and it was the most horrible thing I have ever seen happen to a person. Words can't really describe it.
Ted Kennedy could have done anything he wanted. Instead, the Kennedy's made politics the family business. I hope this trend ends with him. No more political dynasties--it's too close to the system of royalty we fought against in the Revolutionary War. I haven't known anyone with brain cancer. I really hope he didn't suffer, but I imagine his conversation with St. Peter will be an interesting one.
One less socialist, I suppose the government is going to have to pay for the funeral. Oh and Maxie, the Bush family isn't more like Royalty than the Kennedy family?
Nah, the Kennedy's have plenty of money. That's why they have the luxury of proposing the government programs they do. No one in that family has to work for a living. They work for a hobby. Are you kidding me? Barbara Bush or Jackie O? Has a Kennedy brother ever lost a Senate race? Not Bobby, not Jack, not Teddy. Jeb Bush lost. How many calls are there for "The Next Bush" in the government? Any political family is corrosive to the fabric of American democracy. Ideology doesn't matter. The Clintons are trying to do the same thing. George W. Bush would never have been elected Governor of Texas and therefore President without the groundwork laid by his father. Jeb, if he would have won the Senate race, would have been the "Next Bush". Joseph Sr. wanted his family to be a political power. His annointed son, Joseph Jr. died during the war. Jack was the next in line. Then Bobby. No Senate seat available in MA? Fine. Carpetbag in NY. Finally Teddy. He reluctantly ran and then grew into the position.
Lots of people die from cancer. Ted Kennedy's struggle was nothing special. In fact, he received health care unlike any he would have legislated for us. I don't buy into the mystique of the Kennedy, just like I don't buy into the mystique of the Reagans, Bushs or Clintons. I believe in a meritocracy. Family dynasties to me are sub optimal. I hope that the person who replaces him as Senator is truly the best for the job, regardless of ideology.
1. The first part was sarcasm 2. The second part was him answering a previous poster earlier in the thread And I, for one, loved the Kennedy's. All three of them. How I wish RFK got his chance to be president. I think we would definitely be living in a better world. Jack was probably my favorite president.
Just out of curiosity, will you make smart ass comments like that when Laura Bush dies, about the person she killed?
Was she drunk? Did she leave the scene? Did she take 10 hours to contact the police? Did she not check on the occupant of her car? Blowing through a stop sign and driving off of a bridge are two different things. The only thing they share in common is that there were fatalities in each instance.
Not that there's anything that could be construed as a "bright side" from his passing, but does anyone else feel a certain sense of relief that his life ended by natural causes instead of by a tragedy or an assassination? I know it's morbid, but at least his death came in his home and he and his family could prepare for it.
actually, they also shared that the horrific events changed their lives for the better. I personally don't care the reason behind the death (being drunk, or running through a stop-sign)...someone died in both cases due solely to Bush and Kennedy. No one else is to blame. I'm sure that his parents weren't probably like "oh great...she wasn't drunk. Thank god"
