I never knew Mighty Mouse was considered a "thug". Is it just every player who happened to get into any type of legal trouble during the JailBlazer era is considered a thug?

I think a lot of it was more due to his whining and complaining and leaking shit to Jason Quick. Most people hated him for that and booed him as if he was a Jailblazer. Well, that and the H2 incident and going through a metal detector with weed wrapped in aluminum foil.

Or when police found a shit load of weed when his house alarm went off.

Or when he whined about playing time during the 99 western finals.

Kemp wasn't a saint either.. he had 12 kids and a cocaine problem.

I suppose it depends on your definition of the word "thug."

To me, a *thug* is someone I know will beat the shit out of anyone in any confrontation on, and off the court. AKA-- scary mofos.

Guys like Damon, McInnis, ZBo, and/or Kemp don't fit that bill in my mind.

Also, I'd add Stacey Augmon as sixth man to my list above. KV on 95.5 was recounting some stories about Augmon's posse and the gangsta connections that guy has.

Long time reader and a first time poster.

I think you would have to consider D Miles as a candidate.

    I would run with

    Telfair
    Rider
    Miles
    Trent
    Doube D

I think excluding Bassy's goodie good smile, at the very least its an intimidating group of people to look at.

to me a thug implies someone who is prone to violence. Damon was 10 kinds of stupid on and off the court, but as far as I know he wasn't violent. Of course my criteria would eliminate 1/2 of the Blazers posters are nominating

The fact that only one person has mentioned Patterson, arguably the vilest person to ever wear a Blazer uniform, makes me wonder just what people consider a "thug."

Tokers and Stoners, as a general rule, are far from being "thugs" IMO. Think mellow. $amon is one of my least favorite Blazers, but I've never considered him a thug. Same goes for Darius: no doubt he likes to get high, but I'm not aware of any thuggish behavior on his part. Is Brian Grant, the Rasta-Man, a thug because he enjoys a good spliff? I don't think so.

Ruben Patterson. Gary Trent. Allen Iverson. Stephen Jackson. Gangsters and guys who would be mugging you or carjacking you or doing home invasions if they had no basketball talent. Those are thugs.

Fair enough. But I disagree about Zbo, he sucker punched Patterson then ran like a little girl. Even the Hoops Family couldn't protect him from Ruben, so I believe he hid at Dale Davis' house for protection.

I was wondering if I was the only one who remembered Wingfield. I'd put him at PF and keep Woods at SF. With Patterson as 6th man. Or reverse Woods and Patterson.

Actually, the Blazers have not really had too many thuggish centers, have they? I'm racking my brains and all I can come up with are good guys - Dudley, Duck, Sabas, Oden, Przybilla. Perhaps if you're really big you don't have to be mean. Like elephants and hippos and blue whales.

Not a jock sniffer? Cool. I've always felt character is important on the team, and I'm not a bed wetter, nor am I part of some mythical 'tar and feather' crowd. I thought we were just throwing out random names to insult people with opinions that differ from our own.

I don't want to be the players' buddy, either. I just don't want a bunch more dumb fucks playing on the Blazers. For me, it takes away from the enjoyment of the game. Watching Wallace flailing his arms, screaming with his eyes bugged out, while he sets all time records for techs in NOT value added for me. Neither is watching Bozo flip off the crowd. You can say that's just so much bs, and maybe that's so for you, but it doesn't change that it's not bs for me.

The just win crowd, yourself included, has always maintained that it didn't matter if 'another dumb fuck jock fucks up', as long as they win games. I've noted before that many of the most vocal of the 'just win' group doesn't live in PDX, and don't care if the team is made up of thugs and crimnals. You guys can continue to believe whatever the hell you what to, but it is clear to me that there are LOTS of fans that disagree, and so does Blazer management.

I have always said that a team can have character AND still win lots of games. By golly, it seems that we have that now. I was told on many occasions that if I wanted a team of choir boys, the Blazers would be bottom dwellers forever. (I'd point out that nobody ever said they want a team of choir boys, a 'team of choir boys' was the "just win crowd's" code for "If you don't like Ruben, Wallace and Bozo Wells.") I pointed out Timmy D and the Spurs as an example. I was told that's an aberration. Well, guess what? We now have 'a team of choir boys' and they are winning.

Tell me, do you like having a team of good characters winning lots of games better than having a team of criminals and thugs winning lots of games? I know that's a no-brainer for me.

For all of my bed wetting, and wanting players tarred and feathered, here I am. I've stood behind the team through the thug years, through the shitty years, and finally....nirvana, good guys on a good team. Sorry that this isn't more exciting for you.

did you used to have another handle? This sure sounds like a rehash of a familiar rant... just a wild guess that you were baleezalbob (sp?) who was one of the select few I put on ignore. Dude only seemed to want to fight...

I'm a character guy myself and have said so umpteen times, but I'd rather have management left in charge of judging that then Canzano and the sorts of fans that enjoy his drivel. I think we're in poor position to judge character. For instance, I wasn't necessarily for trading Zach until management flat said he'd broken their trust. Once they said that, I applauded the move. If you can't understand the distinction I've made, thats not on me.

Questioning whether I'm enjoying this team means you must never read what I post. A few years back I had LA and Roy rated #1 & 2 going into the draft. I pined for Greg the whole next year and about had a heart attack when they won the draft. I had Batum as my #2 guy at #13 two years back (after Anthony Randolph)... guess how I felt about getting him at the end of the 1st? In the last 4 rate the draft theads I've given KP an 3 A's and a B. I don't recall blasting management pretty much ever as they always seem to be making moves I've been advocating right here. I'm fine with Nate too and have stated my support and enjoyment of most every player on the club. So basically, what the fuck are you talking about?

I just remember Greg Anthony getting into fights in the league (but he was with NY then). I was very young. My memory could be wrong.
