I'm considering a new TV. I want something around 55'' to mount on a wall. Do I get a LCD or PLASMA? Any good deals out there? Any TV recomendations? Right now I have a 62" JVC Rear Projection. THANKS!
I've got a plasma and love it, except for the heat it puts out (true of all plasmas as far as I know). It's a Panasonic and (knock on wood) it's been great/no problems. Next time, I'm going to go the projector route (but I've got a home theater set up that's plenty dark and would be perfect for the space.)
In my opinion you get slightly better picture quality with a plasma. And last I checked plasma was still just a tad cheaper per inch. However I believe both price and picture quality have closed significantly between the two techs. Here's my recommendation. If you don't have a lot of potential for glare from nearby windows, get a plasma. If you do have windows, get an LCD as glare will not be an issue for daytime viewing. If you want, email me your budget and I can point you in the direction of what I'd consider some very good possibilities. p.s. It's about time you upgraded that old beast!!!
Man, my father in law got a Samsung DLP a while back, and no joke, it might be the best monitor I've ever seen! Clean, crisp, no heat. Sports look unreal on it. I have an older Sony rear projection and when I step up to get something new, that the route I'm goin'! Good Luck!
I am LOVING the projector. Little did I know how much my wife would love it though. I had a gut feeling she would really enjoy it, even though she was hesitant, but man, she absolutely loves having the PJ. And the price is soooo right. Projector, screen, cables, mount came to about 1200 total. 106" of tv. I did go with a 720P projector to start. Wanted to make sure it would work, before I got too crazy. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest projection to anyone honestly.
Watch it rookie! Join Date: Jun 2009 Found this thread. http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145517&highlight=PLASMA I didnt find it the first time I searched (before I started the thread) because I searched with "TV" only instead of "LCD PLASMA".
http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138069 I can't find the other one, I think Maxie started. It had a lot of good info.
If LCD uses less energy, then I'm sure that is what my wife will vote for. She's big on getting energy efficient appliances etc. How long before HCP makes a joke about my wifes energy efficient vibrator? HA HA!
My former roommate has a LCD Sony television that cost more than twice as much as my Samsung DLP and the picture on the DLP is much better (even he will admit it). Here is an 82 in. Television for $3,999
I like a nice picture, but I'm not one of those guys that has a good eye for it. We have a cheap 47'' LCD 1080p Vizio from Costco in our bedroom and the picture on that is decent to me. Not the best for sports, but I dont watch much sports up in the bedroom.
Anyone have an LED flat screen? What I've seen in the store looks pretty sharp. They are expensive and I guess it's probably not wise to buy a first-run of a new technology but they are pretty cool. Very energy efficient and slim, too.
