It all depends how your league is scored. Assuming it's a standard league, then..... Peterson Turner Drew Forte Jackson or Chris Johnson I don't like D. Williams because I think Stewart will take some of his potential points.
How are MJD and Forte not just as hit or miss though? I don't get it. MJD has not proved he can be a number one running back and take on that kind of workload. While Forte did have a good year last year, that year too, can also be a fluke like Turner's. And his schedule is actually harder than Turner's. If you have a PPR league then Forte would be the way to go at number 2 but you're not making a convincing enough argument to not take him number 2.
MJD for me is a scary one, he is really good when healthy, but thats a big if. with Forte and his one year, I base it off of, he had no QB and defenses were able to key in on him AND he still produced. Turner already had the the QB and an elite WR, to spread out the defense for him. I'm not saying Turner's year was a fluke, but he is too hit and miss for a #2 overall IMO.
I don't think MJD is known as be injury prone . . . why is it a "big if"? More on MJD: The addition of WR Torry Holt should add just enough spark to the passing game so that Jones-Drew won’t see too many 8-men fronts. We’re trying to keep our expectations for him in check, but it ain’t easy. This is a case of one of the most talented backs in the league finally getting his shot to be a bell-cow runner. And the results could be huge. Jones-Drew is hands-down our #1 RB in PPR leagues. And in standard-scoring formats, he’s closer to Peterson than you may think…
Brandon Funston loves MJD . . . more than AP. http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nfl/news?slug=bf-bigboard-football
what's there not to get? turner was a lot more inconsistent than forte. mjd was inconsistent as well but the assumption is that now he'll be the feature back instead of splitting carries it's more likely that he'd stay consistent. i'm really not sold on mjd as a top pick though. i'd have him behind LT, forte, and turner(probably in that order for me). just look at the numbers. turner had three weeks of 5 points and one week of 4 points(espn standard scoring). forte's lowest point totals were 7, 8, and 9. turner obviously had some huge weeks as well but forte's numbers were more consistently good while turner's went back and forth between being bad and great.
keep it goin guys....my draft is Thursday evening...I want to hear every argument imaginable...and if you provide links too that would be awesome too... ...geez...now GOTime has made me come full circle and im leaning towards MJD again....ugh! What to do!?!? I gotta win this year!!!!
And those HUGE weeks came against bad rushing teams. Thats my point too. The inconsistency is why I dont find his value so high as a #2 overall pick.
Forte was barely more consistent than Turner, and yet Turner still had the better year. What I don't get is how they can say Turner is hit or miss then say Forte and MJD aren't. Turner also put up good stats for the time it matters, playoff time(fantasy). In the last six weeks he didn't have one game under ten, and had four that were over twenty and one over thirty. In comparison, Forte only had two games over twenty all season. With Atlanta's O-line and QB having another year of experience, an even more improved passing game to take away those nasty eight-man fronts, and nobody that will vulture any goal-line carries, I don't think there's a more safer second pick in football. The excuses to pass on Turner have been rather weak. Also this isn't 2007, LT 2nd really?
No...that thought has come and gone....Im back on the MJD train at this moment...but i still have 48 hours
I really think RBs are overvalued in many leagues. Get a Brees/Brady/Manning if you can in the first round, and do research on RBs for the 2nd/3rd rounds. I did that, but of course, I was the 8th pick out of 14 teams. I still got the RBs I wanted in my slot, though.
that's not true. forte was significantly more consistent, but turner did put up more points. and really, turner was better last year(not more consistent, but better). i don't think anyone is arguing against that. being better last year doesn't mean he'll be better this year though. i don't think him putting up good fantasy playoff stats last season is really relevant at all. in nfl terms, those games aren't anything special. it's not like he's going to try harder during the fantasy playoffs or elevate his game specifically for them. oh shit, i forgot what year it was. if LT is healthy, he's the 2nd best running back in the league. and even if sproles takes some carries, that just keeps LT fresh for the entire season and he's going to be getting all the goal line carries.
Wrong, Forte was barely more consistent. Turner only had four games where he posted ten or fewer points. In comparison, Forte had three games but did not have as many big number games as Turner. I don't think Turner having one more game of ten or fewer weeks makes him significantly less consistent. After week 9 Turner was the most consistent back in Football. Also my point wasn't that he upped his game because of fantasy football playoffs but that he didn't fade down the stretch which is pretty important considering fantasy players. Players like LT and Portis have bigger and bigger dropoffs later in the season. When LT is healthy he's barely the best RB on his team. Face it, he's nowhere near as good as he was two years ago. He's an injury waiting to happen and Sproles is going to take away carries as San Diego looks to start splitting carries. I'd go Turner, MJD, and Forte before him.
They are, but that's because of the significant drop off from back to back. Brees, Manning, and Aaron Rodgers all scored within 10 points of each other, then there were eight QBS that all scored in the 230 to 250 range. So people tend to get the better RB's first because you can always get a good value QB in the later rounds.
This offense is far from a juggernaut, but it’s good enough to produce a stud RB. Jacksonville finished 20th in total offense last season and 18th in rushing yards. But look for both of those numbers to climb this season. The Jags completely revamped their offensive line this offseason. They added veteran OT Tra Thomas in free-agency and then used their first 2 draft picks on blue chip OTs — Eugene Monroe in the 1st round and Eben Britton in the 2nd. They will also look forward to getting back 2 starting OG in Vince Manuwai and Maurice Williams – both of whom were injured early in the 2008 campaign. This is a franchise that clearly wants to dominate games on the ground.
Why avoid LenDale White? Dude is slimmer than he's ever been and in a contract year. Chris Johnson is a great RB, but White will get his. The dude scored 15 rushing TD's last season.
http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/football/ffl/story?page=nfldk2k9falcons32Q i just came across this article about turner. talks about how he played 6 of the 7 worst rushing defenses last year but he plays none of those this season and last season he played against the 3rd easy schedule for rushing defense but this year he plays against the toughest(i assume using last year's numbers).
