Anyone here have experience in photography?

I'm looking for a DSLR in the $500 range. I'm leaning towards the Nikon D60 but I'll keep my options open.

    I've got a Nikon D90 and I love it.

However, if you're looking at $500, get the D40 for sure. The difference between the D40 and D60 aren't much.

A really good, easy to read DSLR camera guide is at kenrockwell.com. He's a professional that reviews every DSLR on the market, tells you what all the features do and gives his recommendations. He basically says the same thing: get the D40.

    here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm

Although, depending what you want to do with the camera, consider a Canon.

    Thank for the link.

That's surprising that the D60 is really a D40 with a more sensitive sensor, only $300 more.

I looked at the specs of the K200D and sample pictures and I'm really impressed!

I've got the Nikon D60 and I love it. It takes fantastic pics. I still need to spend some time figuring out all the bells and whistles so I can get the most out of it. I usually just use AUTO mode and the pics are great. I'm looking to upgrade to a better lense.

I've been using a K200D for a year now and love it. Remarkable camera for the money - focus performs well, intuitive controls, image stabilization works great, very solid durable feel compared to low end Nikon and Canons + only camera it its price range with some amount of weatherization.

I also bought the Pentax DA 55-300 which is one of the sharpest low-end zoom lenses I've used in 30 years of photography. It's also reasonably compact and perfectly compliments the 18-55 that is usually packaged with the body.

I paid a little bit more than that for my EOS Digital Rebel xsi, and I'm EXTREMELY happy with it. I just wish I could afford a lens with a wider aperture...

I decided on the Nikon D3000!

I'm picking it up tomorrow at Ritz Camera for $600.

Nice. You really can't go wrong with a Nikon.

You should get it at Pro Photo Supply. Support a local company!

I got a Nikon D80 and love it. My only complaint would be that I wish I had more money to get a better lens.

Yes, I have one too. It's the prosumer model..or at least it was. But the cost of lenses (for all cameras) are crazy.

I'm starting to play around with Digital photography a bit more. Going for quality and stuff. I bought a book "Digital Photography" by Scott Kelby so hopefully I'll get better with it over time.

On another note, any thoughts on this coming camera? http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-P100-Vi..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0FKWEQK5Z6WE41PRWC8A

I want to get something that shoots 1080 HD video...this might be a good option. Seems like a good compromise on a dSLR (although I have a digital rebel xTi). Just don't like the size.
