Iverson is the last, and I mean last, NBA player I would ever want on the Trail Blazers. I've felt that way for years. Thank god that will never be an issue.

The guy is a thug I will admit, but he has the biggest heart and warriors mentality of any player in the league.

Are you kidding me? Say what you want about his appearance and his image, but you cannot take away what he has accomplished ON the floor! Barely 6 feet tall,175 pounds and has brought it the way he has?!?! Hall of Famer!

Then he should join a one-on-one league.

A lot of the years for the Sixers were basically one on five not because he was selfish necessarily, but because his supporting cast was God-awful.

Give Iverson credit. He won MVP and got his team to the NBA Finals (and won a game against a Lakers team that had won 19 games in a row!) Those are not easy accomplishments in this league.

Sure, I'll give him credit for those feats.

So, then, he can now play a backup role.

I like how he wants his team to get into the playoffs and win when he gets there.

"I'm not going to be content and happy with [just making the playoffs]," he said. "And I want them to know that. Yeah, we [can] get into the playoffs -- God forbid somebody knocks us out -- then yeah it'll be a successful season for them , but not for me.

"I'm going to let guys know that I'm not here to just go to the playoffs. I believe in these dudes here. All I want them to do is trust me and trust that I'll do everything the right way and lead them to where we need to be."

That's a great attitude to have.

"There's nothing that sells good about Allen Iverson if it's something positive about Allen Iverson," he said with a laugh. "You know, you don't want to hear about how much money I donate to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America or to AIDS awareness or to give out scholarships, you don't want to hear about that.

Why did you leave that out, westnob?

I can't stand the guy, and would HATE for him to be a Blazer. But I do love to watch him play. One tough hombre.

KingSpeed, it's great that he's donating some of his millions to good causes! But I thought it was interesting: "After that, they told me that if I didn't come off the bench -- the team was going to lie down on [not play with] me"

if the team promised that iverson was going to start to get him there and then changed their mind and benched him, that's the fault of the team not iverson.

at least post the whole quote.

it what iverson is saying is the truth, then i don't see how you can say he was in the wrong. you can say he should have gotten over it and done what's best for the team, but at the same time the team is still wrong if they went back on their promise to him.

Hall of Famer? Sure. Malcontent who was lazy at times and mocked his coaches? Sure.

He's a great player who never changed his game to make his teammates better. Sure, he made a Finals, but the East was absolutely brutal immediately after Jordan and Pippen left Chicago.

True, it's the team's fault for not accurately assessing his lack of appropriate skills before they signed him.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
One thing I admire about Iverson was how tough he was. Especially in the first half of his career, he took an enormous amount of punishment on his slight frame but played through numerous strains and even through some dislocations. He has a high pain threshold and did his best to get out on the court even when quite banged up.

True, but still, he's only played in more than 75 games 4 times in 14 seasons. Perhaps had he deferred to his teammates at times, he would have been able to stay on the court more? :dunno:

I would never want him on our team. But I respect him as a player. I wish him well in Memphis. I wouldn't mind seeing AI score 30 a game again.
