The Miller addition seems to be working well so far. Even before we signed him I had posted a few times that we should be looking to bring to bring in an older more experienced pg every few years instead of trying to develop one from the draft. If it happens great but I think there are a few of you who were? still are? worried about getting a starting pg for this teams entire (potentially long) championship window. In 3yrs from now when Miller is most likely gone I don't see us looking to fill the void with a rookie or Blake and with 3 max/near max contracts (Roy, LMA, Oden) I don't see us signing a D.Williams/Chris Paul tier of pg. Who will be our next Favre? Who will be our next pg who is nearing the end of their career who wants to come here for a shot at a ring?
So, looking for a PG who is currently between 27-31 and is starting caliber? There aren't many to choose from. Baron Davis, Chris Duhon, Jose Calderon, and Tony Parker are the only ones I can find in that age range.
If Bayless can be half a PG.. then We'll be ok. since Roy is already half a PG, then add Roy's abilities as a SG and add the other half of Bayless as a Scorer.. we'll be ok.
That's what I was thinking when I was writing this post. There seems to have been a bit of a talent void for a few years when it comes to pgs. You have your Kidd-Nash era and then the D.Will CP3 era.
I bet you won't be saying that after this season. Wait till we see Roy and Miller get comfortable together. Then we'll half a full pg in Miller and a half a pg in Roy. 1 1/12 pgs > 1 pg.
Yes I do like What Miller will do with that.. but also its cause he can help and attack as well. But to me Miller is an obvious upgrade because he can attack and be a general. If we can find one of those out of the ones mentioned.. then yes its an upgrade to Bayless... but if not Bayless is our best option. cause then it will be 1 1/2 SGs> .75 of a PG (someone like Blake)
You know at the first preseason game Oden had a really nice assist to LMA. Maybe he'll be .25 of a pg. And Batum played a little pg in the Euro championships. That's got to be worth .25 of a pg also. So a line up of Miller, Roy, Batum, LMA and Oden would be a SG, SF, PF, C and 2 point guards!! So we'd have 5 players out on the court but they would be playing like they 6 players. That's crazy! I wonder if we could play with 2 basketballs? We'll see what happens in Memphis, with AI and Zbo on the same team they're going to have to play with two basketballs if anyone else wants to ever attempt a shot.
I believe Nate already experimented with 6 players before. It works!
lol well now you are going crazy. Thats just crazy talk. But in all seriousness, Bayless is at least a projected as part a PG.
That guard is retired, we already have a coach - and quite frankly, haven't we learned from Damon's first stint here?
Yes, we learned not to wrap your dope in aluminum foil and then try and take it through airport security.
Yeah, that's it. A recurring nightmare I have is hearing that Paul Allen bought a train for the team...
He'll be a free agent that year. But he'll also be 36. At that point we might sign him as a backup, if he's still able to play. Or we could just re-sign Miller for that role of veteran backup, since he'll be the same age. I doubt we want either as a starter. The best PG off the top of my head who will be in that window of 31-34 years old in 2012 is Baron Davis. I really don't like the way he'd fit on this team, and I don't know that he'll age gracefully (only 4 of his 10 seasons so far has he played more than 65 games).
