People are scared of loners and think there is something wrong with them. God forbid someone just doesn't like large groups of people.
do i think we make the playoffs? yes. i predicted us to finish 3rd. could we be the jazz or hornets of last year.... 100% yes. could we be the baby bulls of 07... 100% yes clippers, thunder, grizz, suns are all improved. you never know if guys just dont have the right chemistry on this team.
All 4 of those WC teams are improved but not close to being as good as the Blazers. You can worry all you want about the Blazers but I think it's all for naught imo.
Funny career choice then, entertaining thousands nightly. I hope he doesn't snap and drive his Escalade over them after the game.
This hardly seems like a big deal. Miller wants to start and expects to start. As someone else said, until the team starts losing games they shouldn't be, this doesn't worry me at all. The idea that every non-cheery comment is a crusher to chemistry and legitimately threatens the team's success is off-base. Forums like this are echo chambers, in which pretty innocuous issues get blown up into huge discussion points. The "Roy unhappy with how contract negotiations are going" thing was a non-issue and the "Miller says he wouldn't have signed here if he had been told he'd be a backup" is likely going to be forgotten pretty soon after the season starts, in my opinion.
Not that funny. He entertains them by playing basketball, not by socializing. Me too. I hope no one does that.
Completely false. In fact, I said he was the best off-season aquisition this team could make. Tell more lies, Nate. At least drag up my posts criticizing his signing after inking his deal. You are a liar.
The over exaggerated hyperbole is funny, but oddly that is not what most loners do (while some people who come off as very social do). I think his choice was more playing basketball because he loved it rather than entertaining people; shockingly someone can do a job that involves a multitude of people but still wish to be left alone after their job is done. Preferring to be alone does not equate crazy, aggressive towards people, or anything like that.
So, do most "loners" whine to the media about having to compete for playing time on a 54-win team? I'm thinking Miller knows he got one over on the Blazers with his "Mr. Basketball" act.
I think loners who are often misjudged by a large group of people who have a preconceived idea about how a person should act socially will, sometimes, try to explain themselves; which is what I believe what he was trying to do for most of the article. As for the playing time issue complaint I believe personally he is more frustrated by Nate coming right out of the gate and saying Blake was the starter; not so much the idea of him having to compete for the starting role. I'd also point out that Spears suggests the interview was conducted last week before the rotating starting lineup tryouts started. Considering he's outplayed Blake this preseason (something even notorious Blake lover Quick pointed out in plain words yesterday) I think there will be no issue of him starting or not. In my opinion at this point he has clearly earned it by being a superior player. Edit: A quick aside the reason I come so quickly to his defense on the loner issue is that I myself am not very social due to a personality disorder. Just because a person does not wish to engage in social activities doesn't mean they're mean, rude, crazy, or more susceptible to snap and go on murderous rampages as the Maris Hyperbole Post suggested. It probably just means a person prefers peace, quiet and alone time more than being with a lot of people (and a lot can vary for people as my 'a lot' is more than four or five). A lot of people get all in a tiffy when a person is a loner but where is the complaints about people who are overly in your face happy nothing can ever go wrong sunshine sunshine hug hug etc :/.
Actually, we have conflicting reports here. We have one stating that Miller didn't know he may not be starting, given to a national media member. He says had he known this, he would not have signed with the Blazers. We have another quote, from Nate, to a local writer a month ago stating that Miller may be coming off of the bench, as was explained to him in their dinner in Vegas. Hmm...
I think something in their dinner may have got crossed or misheard; perhaps just simply fogged up in the time since the meeting. I'll maintain my belief that his comment was more directed towards McMillan suggesting that Blake was the starter going into the season during August/September before softening his stance later. I have no doubt he expected to start because he knows, as many other people do, that he is simply the superior player to Steve Blake at the point guard position. That's no knock on Blake who has good long-range shooting and doesn't make risky decisions, but he isn't in Miller's 'point guard' league.
Really? I'm just going to stick with my new belief that Miller is a selfish loner who is misrepresenting why he was brought to Portland. His whining to a national member of the media pretty much proves this to me right now. Why not air your concern to your coach before crybabying to the media? He got paid, now he wants to be happy, whether or not that means actually winning. Miller has lost me right now. I hope he proves me wrong.
There you go making being a loner as something bad. I see you've learned nothing and want to perpetuate stereotypes, congratulations.
Where did I say him being a loner is bad? I said he's a self-admitted loner who just whined to the national media about his frustrations. Address this, or don't. Just stop accusing me a saying that being a loner is a negative. I have never said this, and Miller admits to being a loner.
Andre Miller, the perception, doesn't exude anything differently. The perception he is leading on is why I feel he has never been as successful as he could have been. I think with Andre, it's more about me. And it's been that way his entire career. But on this team, that's ok, because everyone else is selfless. We can hope that his me first attitude won't ruffle any feathers with his teammates. Steve Blake being one of them.
I'm not sure that really matters at this point. He shot the ball 11 times in 25 minutes last night, and he's basically a mid-level aging PG. I think a scapegoat has been discovered in this thread.
