My 8 year old wants a skateboard and I want to get him something nice, but don't want to spend a ton. Do any of you know if any skate shops around town sell quality used boards?

Kids are so spoiled these days.

Back in the day, we made our own.

Do not get a used board....... I am not even sure if a shop would actually do that. The wood begins to form small micro-cracks and eventually breaks down from abuse. A used board would just be a huge waste of money. the way to go is to buy a "blank". A blank is the exact same quality board, made by some of the same major manufacturers, but without the graphics on the bottom. You basically pay an extra 30-40 bucks or so for some dumb graphics that are just going to get grinded off anyways. Of course, you will have to get the trucks, wheels and bearing as well. But, you can get cheaper wheels and cheaper bearings as well, that are definately comparible with the best. Is there a difference? Yes. But not to the beginner.

    YEAH!!

However, that was after walking to school in 3' of snow barefoot, then back home to chop 1/2 cord of wood for the stove.

    Two things about skateboards:

    1) The longer boards are easier to ride
    2) They get better gas mileage than your car.

Go to Cal's Pharmacy. I don't skate, but I think my friends who do shop there. Plus it used to be my pharmacy when I lived in Portland.
