All this crazy shit on here.......... everybody bitchin about the smallest most ridiculous things. Picking apart my Blazers which I have followed since I was born. Imagine if somebody came in and moved our team away like the Sonics. I don't know what I would do! I would go crazy! We are lucky just to have a team. I just watched the SonicGate documentary and I recommend you all to do the same thing. Puts it all in perspective.
one of the cons of having such a rabid fan base... we have a lot of dipwit people who are rabid, but have very little knowledge or perspective on Basketball.
When I saw people predicting a finals appearance and 64 wins two months ago I had the inkling of a feeling that we might be in for a rough ride if things don't go perfectly this year. Me? I'm just happy the team is going to be streaming their games with a high quality feed (and that Greg sounds like he's playing pretty good).
We do tend to pick apart dumb stuff... haven't even played a regular season game yet. I think it is fine to discuss... but we tend to get way too far into it. It's like the board is a bunch of lemmings that are not just following the crowd but actively looking for a reason to jump off a cliff. There is a big difference between the rabid fans now and back in the day though... back then you'd get your ass kicked if you said anything bad about the team... even the Oregonian just turned its back on a lot of news because the team was just too sacred to say something bad about. For some reason on here... I don't know whether people are drunk or are riled up because they feel anonymous or what... but we seem to pick apart EVERYthing. I like to hear everyone's thoughts on the Blazers... but the negatively is so thick here for the most part I don't bother to try to have conversations anymore. We were teetering just like the Sonics. It was looking very very dark there for awhile… not just in how the team was playing but talks of selling… moving etc… I am very grateful we still have a team.
dumb stuff? first of all we arent the sonics so thats dumb. not our problem... its seattles problem. second... clearly their are issues this season. even the biggest homers know it. the suns did whatever they wanted to us last night. thats a problem. even barrett seemed concerned in his blog today. third our star is out of sync with the team. masjor problem. four... outlaw is still here so yah... worry about us and not a team that doesnt exist
I think people are just a little drunk on high expectations right now ... the team has made some really remarkable strides in a very short amount of time and it's probably generating a feeling of euphoria and invincibility ... and of entitlement, what people seem to be neglecting to do is to actually appreciate just how quickly fortunes have reversed themselves and just how tenuous success can be. Maybe most people don't remember just how many times Clyde and company got booted in the first round before they really came together and made those conference championship and finals runs -- I hope some people around here can remember that this is supposed to be for fun and for entertainment and to appreciate just how good we've got it, but also not assume a perfectly smooth ascension.
We would have switched to being Blazers fans by now, and would be complaining about all of this same shit?
We are real fans. The Sonics had complacent fans, that's why they no longer exist. Never assume that can't happen here.
I'm not sure I'd have been able to personally. The whole situation in Seattle was terrible. I think going through that for my favorite team would've burned me off NBA ball for good. Maybe I would've come around eventually, but I certainly wouldn't have just upped and started rooting for the next closest team right away.
so...we went from "guaranteed 10 championship dynasty" to "we're lucky to have a team"? weak. We need to expect more from this team. None of this "its only pre-season bullshit. Winners take pre-season seriously, just like they take practice seriously.
lol... i never saw a championship... from the current roster. but yah many in here have already pre ordered the BLAZER Sports Illustrated championship edition! im just hoping for home court in the 1st rd this year. but honestly this team has all the makings of the bulls, hornets, and jazz from past seasons. everyone was in love with them/expectations and they eithe rmissed or barley made teh post season with a 1 and done.
It wasn't close. 1) Paul Allen is tied into a multi-decade contract. 2) Before a team moves, it goes through financial problems, with cheaper and cheaper players, more and more losses, and thus obvious financial signs for several years before the owner bails out. So it wasn't close, it was a few years away at the minimum, if ever. What if we were Sonic fans? Much worse...What if we were Laker fans? No, no, don't make me think of it!!!
I know I've said it before, but this is exactly what I've seen happen here in Wonderful Western Washington lol since the Sonics moved. The NBA is all but forgotten.
I love that everybody is so passionate about our squad, but if you didn't know any better, you would think we had won 28 games last year and had a shitty draft this past summer! We are a dynasty on the rise, sit back and enjoy it. The only reason I brought up the Sonics was because we as hoop junkies could be in there position and not even have a team to support, let alone tear apart on a daily basis! Go Blazers!
