Mills would have played overseas this year so I doubt we signed him just to give him money... Hi agent would likely do that till he was healed anyway. If he were to go to Europe we wouldn't have signed him at all. By signing him we are committed to keeping him or forfeiting him. There is no signing him and not having him utilize a roster spot unless we waive him in which case we lose him altogether.

KP has no reason to sign him just to cut him 2 weeks later. I tend to always suspect trades and they never happen, so Im trying not to suspect a trade this time, but the parts of the equation seem to spell T R A D E.

No, you were right earlier- there must be a trade coming.

Or, we're wanting to keep Mills by being certain to lock him up as our future PG. It sure as hell isn't going to be Bayless. Then we can either cut Udoka & Collins or a trade.

    Outstanding.

Patty Mills is an NBA player. He just needs to the right niche. Is it in Portland? That's the question that I have, but the Blazers wouldn't have to sign him to trade his rights, would they?

No, but they would have to sign him to waive him and make him an unrestricted free agent; my guess is that no team would have any interest whatsoever in trading for him -- especially with his bum foot and his late second round draft status.

Why sign him to waive him? Why not just hold on to his rights for a year? Unless he won't play fo a calendar year.

Maybe he sees 3 other guards ahead of him on this roster and doesn't want to rehab his foot just so he can play for the Stampede.

Honestly, I'm not getting the move, becuase I guess they could have just as easily renounced his draft rights and achieved the same effect.

    :dunno:

You're joking, but I'm not so sure. I'm pretty sure it is VERY uncommon to carry 4 PGs.

Camera + NBA GM + alcohol + farm animals = 15th spot on the roster.

I said several weeks ago that Mills may have to be the answer for this team for quick guards.
I suspect a trade as well. Some of the lethargic play may very well be attributed to this. But who would be available.

I agree with something Nate (I think it was him) once said in that 'point guards are not made, they're born'. In other words, Bayless may have a lot of positive attributes, but being a PG isn't one of them and never will be. But Mills is a true PG. As such, he can learn a couple of years behind Miller and possibly take over as either our starting or back up PG. I like this move and hope we keep him to see how he pans out.

You never watched him play for St. Mary's did you? He's a short scoring guard just like Bayless.

Seems a lot like the Batum or McRoberts signings. We're all speculating if there's some hidden motivation, but it'll probably wind up that the Blazers see something in him that I don't, and they just want him on the roster. Hopefully this is more "Batum" and less "McRoberts."

That would be my guess. Bayless trade this season and a wait-see on Blake for next season.

Maybe KP calls Nate's bluff, and trades Blake.

But that might upset Roy, and god knows we need to bend over backwards to make sure he gets his stats.

My guess would be it's Miller and one of our starters for a much better PG.

Yep. His game is predicated on being the fastest guy on the court. If that injury costs him *any* of his speed, he goes from "possible NBA sleeper", to "begging for a job" status.
