I think Rudy Gay will be a better player than Gerald soon. He's four years younger, better scorer, and he's a decent defender.
don't forget Zach has Vegas established an over/under on how many games before the Griz get an assist? STOMP
Do they count it as an assist if someone airs it and Zach catches and puts it in? I could see that happening once or twice.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ylz5son Memphis gets a young and exciting point guard in Bayless, they get Aldridge who is a borderline all-star (and he's signed), plus they get Outlaw who they covet. We get Conley (our pg of the future), Gasol (who would be a great backup center), and Gay as our starting small forward (who we would have to sign). and then this http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjxwrre Houston gets Joel to play center for them while Yao is out (and if Yao continues to be out). They get Rudy to be there starting shooting guard until TMAC is back, and they get Batum and Blake. We get Battier and Scola. Scola becomes our starting power forward, and Battier backs up Gay. Miller/Conley Roy/Webster Gay/Battier Scola/Howard/Dorsey Oden/Gasol
Aldridge Fernandez Batum Bayless Outlaw Fernandez Blake for Conley Gasol Gay Battier Scola Dorsey Wow... are you sure you're a Blazers fan? What an epic way to go about skull-fucking this roster into submission!
Rondo is another '06 draftee unlikely to sign an extension by the deadline. He's worth All-Star money, wtf are the Celtics doing?!
Now THERE's a guy worth loving. (Unless you're Brad Miller.) I would gladly offer the Celtics Bayless AND a choice of Blake or Miller for Rondo and filler. That would help our defensive problems in the backcourt considerably. Saving money? Maybe they figure this is the way to motivate him?
+2. Consolidation, sure. That'd be great. Completely overhauling our roster from last season? I think that'd be a bad idea. Especially a week before the season starts. That lineup returns 2 people who played for us last season.
Apparently not as big a fan as you, because you included Rudy twice I guess I think it's most important to keep Roy and Oden. I think the rest of the players have a high chance of leaving this team in the next few years, with the exception of Aldridge. Joel, Blake, and Outlaw are all unrestricted free agents in the next year. Rudy and Bayless are going to want minutes. I just don't see how we're going to accommodate that. Conley is the type of young point guard we've been coveting. Gasol, Battier, and Scola would make us tremendously tough on defense and in the paint. Sure, losing Aldridge is a big loss, but I think getting Gay and adding Scola in his place are more than enough compensation. You know what, we all know there isn't going to be a trade. I simply proposed one that I think would make us a better team, and it clears out a lot of the logjams that we're facing right now. I would also argue that now is the time to make a move like this. We are obviously still working on team cohesion and chemistry. We're trying to figure out how to add Oden into the mix on offense. If we're going to shake things up, now is the time. I guess that's just my opinion.
I can't say I agree. I really liked Gay's talent when he was coming out of college, but I have to say that I'm starting to consider him a bust. Sure, he puts up superficially good scoring numbers, but he's not actually a very good scorer due to his mediocre efficiency...and that's his strength! He doesn't pass or defend and his rebounding isn't noteworthy. Coming out of college, I felt Gay had all the tools to be an all-around great player. He hasn't turned into that. He really is just Travis Outlaw with a better name brand. I would never consider trading Aldridge with Gay as the primary, or as one of the primary, returns. Conley is a good young point guard, but not good enough to tempt me to trade Aldridge.
Do you think maybe Gay would improve with a better coaching staff around him? I would love to see what he would look like with Bayno working with him.
