I wasn't a fan of his when he was President, but I have come to respect and admire his conviction and ideals more and more as I've gotten older. This speech was given in 1964, but its themes ring true today: http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/archives/reference/timechoosing.html
Not only one of the greatest speeches ever, but a ringing prophecy of the complete downfall of our society under this current administration as well as the elimination of our country as one of individual freedoms. How sad. How incredibly sad.
I have been to several presidential museums. The Nixon one was better than Reagan's in my opinion - less sterile. I was just at the new Lincoln Museum in Springfield IL - it was fantastic.
I've been to the Nixon one...less impressed a bit more homely. Have you been to the Reagan recently? They have a new part of it with Air Force One, where you can actually go on board. Pretty nice....
Serious question, did Bush's actions curtailing Civil Liberties disturb you at all? I'm more then a bit disturbed by Obama's admin in particular Geithner and Summers. However, to talk about lost freedoms and Obama after the most egregious administration in this country's history is a bit shocking. Seriously, no one is bothered by the warrantless wiretapping and the removal of Haebeus Corpus for the ultra loosely defined "terrorist"? I didn't vote for Obama FYI. I sure as hell didn't vote for Bush either.
I am bothered by them, and by the fact that Obama hasn't reversed those actions. I am also bothered by the first post. Can someone either condense it or pay me for my time to read it?
Without reading it, I'm realizing that it's probably Johnson's acceptance speech at the convention. I watched that convention closely on TV. That's when conventions were where decisions were collectively made, instead of everything being pre-arranged as now, a result of history's judgement of the 1968 one costing a party a victory.
