The new D-Coordinator has some 'splainin' to do. Week 9 and the Giants are still having miscommunications on defense (the TD pass just now). And we're still seeing retarded plays like the LB's coming in to blitz while Justin Tuck drops back to cover a TE (seriously in what world would you rather have Antonio Pierce going for the QB instead of Justin Tuck?).
Panthers fumble the ball deep in their own territory, but then Brees gives it right back with a pick to Gamble.
BULLSHIT! Eli threw the ball away while scrambling and the refs called that he stepped out of bounds 5 yards back. Replays showed he clearly was inbounds but the referees declined Coughlin's challenge because it's appartently non-reviewable. Any non-penalty flag should be reviewable.
Well my weekend with football is offically over. Getting ownd in Fantasy, and the Packers lost.. to the Bucs. =/
Hard to blame the Giants, but I would have been a bit more aggressive. I don't like to strictly run the clock out in such a close game but whatever. DeAngelo Williams coughs up the game on his own one yard line. Saints win again, but I think the AFC is still better.
Great game, Chutney. Honestly, I think the Chargers' should've won by more. They made it a lot harder on themselves with no running game and dropping the ball so many damn times. Great game though. So satisfying as a Chargers fan to see Rivers win the game and Merriman seal the game. I think Merriman is starting to get back to his old form, if he can finish the year out strong, the Chargers could go on a good run. Our pass rush is back, and our secondary is looking better. Great game, Chutney.
It was a stupid, stupid playcall. Why in the world would you not go for the win in that situation? Gilbride really deserves some heat for that call.
Definitely was a good game. I was encouraged that the game style was a slowed down significantly. The Giants were imposing their style of play for the first time in 4 weeks. We didn't execute though. We would build these long drives and just fritter them away when we got to the opposing side of the field. We would make some defensive plays and then play sloppy and let Rivers complete a long pass. That last possession really irritates me though. I just don't understand why you don't go for the win. Even with the time they ran off the clock, you were giving Phillip Rivers the ball with 2 and half minutes. When our defense hadn't shown the ability to consistently stop him (WR drops and miscues had more to do with their failed drives), why even risk it? Michael Boley definitely showed that he's coming back from an injury. His best attribute is his speed, yet he was consistently behind TE's in coverage. Vincent Jackson didn't have a huge statistical day. But he made plays when it counted against a cornerback that, up to this point, had been shutdown-calibre. Webster has been the sole good story for the Giants D this year, and he looked very mediocre today. The Giants coaching staff just looks terrible so far this year. Coughlin usually prides himself on his teams' discipline, but the Giants have racked up penalties and lacked fundamentals (WR drop/bad routes, missed tackles). The defensive and offensive playcalling has just been subpar.
We still got a shot. It's concerning though, that everyone on our team doesn't seem to understand why they're losing. Week after week, they've been unable to explain why they're struggling to execute at a level that they've usually performed. That tends to be a hallmark of teams that lack talent. This upcoming bye week is timely. I think our defense should be fully healthy and conditioned in 2 weeks, so hopefully we can build a winning streak.
