I'd actually like to see the assist numbers of point guards around the league and how they measure up to Roy. And if he played point, I suspect those assist numbers would go up.
Brandon is our PG. The offense goes through him. I just want my SF to hit a three with consistency. Hopefully Claver could be that guy. Or maybe make an offer for Gallinari. That's literally the only thing he can do but at 6'10"-6'11", he could be a weapon and a nice 3rd or 4th option. Though, we'd probably have to take back one or both of Jeffries and Curry to even make Walsh consider trading him.
There are two numbers out there to look at - Assist Ratio - the ratio of assists to the possession the player had where he could assist - Roy is at about 20% there. In comparison, Blake and Andre are higher than him at 27% and 30% - the best point guards are much higher, J-Kidd, for example, is at 48%, Rondo at 45% - Roy calls his own number a lot more than "pure" point-guards, but that's to be expected - he is the #1 option on offense. Chris Paul who is a fantastic PG - but is the #1 option on his team, has an assist ratio of 32%. On the other hand - other small-guards are usually not as good as Roy is in this regard - Wade's assist ratio is 14%, Kobe is at 7.3% - Roy calls his number a lot less than these guys call their own. The other measure is Assist% - the amount of scores the other 4 players on the court score because of an assist from this guy - and Roy's Assist% is at 25% which is very good for a SG, acceptable for a PG (Blake, for example, had this Assist% last year). The better PGs have much higher assists%. So - yes, Roy calls his number a lot, which is not a big deal - he is our best offensive player.
I've been excited since about the trade deadline for the day we unravel a Batum/Roy/Webster/LMA/Oden lineup.
