...if we took the albatross of Elton Brand off their hands?

I bet they'd be tempted. Brand is seriously a shell of his former self.

We would have to pick up a few vets to get our roster up to the league minimum, though. But Philly would be forced to waive a few, so...

There's long been a love affair with Iguodala on this board, and I've resisted jumping on the bandwagon, but the past couple of seasons his +/- and defensive numbers have been ridiculous, and I'm thinking we need bulk at the SF spot if we ever want to compete with the Artest Lakers or the LeBron whatever-team-he-chooses, and Iguodala has, I think, shown himself to be a very unselfish and creative player.

[edit: for some reason that link doesn't seem to work. Essentially it's:
    we get: Brand and Iguodala
they get: every Blazer except Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Miller, Batum, Mills, Howard.]

How would we ever match that much salary? We don't have RLEC anymore. At most we might be able to match one, but not both.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
For some reason, links to the ESPN trade machine don't work for me...I get the "start a trade" screen. So I can't see your proposal.

But does Iguodala bulk Portland up at the small forward spot? He seems to actually be a little lighter than Roy and the same height. Of course, Miller/Roy/Iguodala is a bigger perimeter than Miller/Blake/Roy, so I guess in a sense it does bulk Portland up.

If Philadelphia is ready to tear it all down and start over, this may be the best offer they can get. Drop their big contracts, get some young, inexpensive players while keeping their own young, inexpensive players.

I've always liked Iguodala...this would be an excellent consolidation deal if it could be pulled off. Assuming Portland could find NBA players to fill out their roster afterward. ;)

Edit: Just saw your edit, so it's not just me. Whew.

I am for only doing trades that would make us considerably better. Ig is a great player, strong athletic and can score from anywhere, but I think the only way we get better is #1 CP3 :) or #2 Grab very defensive savvy SFs or quick savvy defenders at PG. That's just me though.

Our scraps for their star player, sounds like a deal to me.

IMO, Iguodala is a very good defender. I haven't watched him a ton, but I've seen a handful of his games each season and he strikes me as a tough defender. Offensively, he's all-around good but not exceptional at anything. I think he'd be a great complementary player.

You have to "save" the trade and then you can link people to it. Maybe he didn't do that? :dunno:

It's not about the "quality of player in return". It's more about me questioning the chemistry involving players needing touches.

As long as he is happy being a complementary player - sure. The issue is that he is now the #1 option in that team while they are grooming T-Young and Marsee.

One glaring problem I see is that we become absolutely atrocious at shooting the 3 with that proposal, Blake, Rudy, Webs, and Outlaw constitute our 4 best perimeter threats. A starting lineup with Miller/Roy/Iggy would probably be the worst outside shooting team in the league.

Plus there's adding 1 more guy that needs the ball and takes it out of Roy's hands, and the holes it leaves at backup PG and C.

I haven't seen him that much either, so my opinion is kinda a feeling more than an educated debate. But looking at his statistical numbers, it looks like he's getting 15 shots a game. I don't think he will even come close to getting those numbers in Portland. Do you think he would be happy with that?

I'm not sure how important shots are to him. I do know he loved playing with Miller and was sorry to see him leave Philly, so that would be a positive element to his coming to Portland, I figure.

Why would you completely gut our team that we have built and had success with for Iggy and a washed up version of Brand?

I can't see what the OP's proposal was, but those two players make a combined 27 million dollars. We would have to trade half our team to make the trade work. I'm all for consolidation, but that's really pushing it. Reminds me of the Kiki Vandeweghe trade.

while I agree our shooting takes a hit with the backup players... They seemed ok with a starting backcourt of Miller, Iggy, and Willie Green... the difference being Roy is much much better. And Alridge much much better than Young.. and Oden Much much much better than Sam

I really don't see the point in the Blazers making a huge trade at this point. Maybe a small consolidation trade or something, but why on earth do we need to do something like this? I don't get it.
