Apparently LeBrick is going to wear #6 next year. I do agree with him though, no one should wear the number 23. The NBA needs to retire that number league-wide.
It would be awkward too for Kobe to wear 10. But then again, I'll probably get used to it, just like 24.
I'm a huge fan of the the Bulls and have been since I was a kid...and I'd still hate LeBrick if he went there. I'm more pushing for DWade or Bosh than him.
I'd have to agree in that Lebron has gone from a humble kid from akron to a pompous, egocentric jerk, but you can't deny that he'll take Chicago to lengths DWade never could. Much less Bosh.
Probably, I don't think #23 should be retired everywhere though. He hasn't done anything special off the court. I don't put him on an unattainable level of greatness.
Jordon re-defined the game. #23 deserves to be retired everywhere. He is an icon of the sport, the most famous face in the NBA by far, IMO.
If they were going to retire a number it should be Jordan's #23, but I'm not sure it should be league wide. Let it stay retired in Chicago and that's it. Does any other major sports league have one jersey retired throughout the league? Maybe Jackie Robinson?
From a marketing standpoint, yeah. But if there were truly two players who made basektball a sport worth watching (first), it would have to be Dr. J (for the way highlight plays became a BIG part in basketball, as well as his style of play) and Wilt Chamberlain (for straight-out dominating the game of basketball). Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player ever, but like huevonkiller said, he's not on an unattainable level of greatness. I'd put Gretzky ahead of him in that regard (not saying I agreed with the 99 league wide number retirement, but ou get my point).
