We all should rally behind our team no matter what. I hate fair whether fans. Think of four or five years ago, where were we then? We were the JAIl BLAZERS! We have short term memories. At least we are not Minnesota or the other terrible teams out there. we get to sit back in our easy chairs and criticize the team. the fans have unrealistic expectations, we can't win every game.
wow i guess we really do suck.... its already time for "remember the nash days" werent we suppose to be good? or are we just trying to feel good now?
Thanks for the tip and I do remember those years. I am an ultimate "Homer" that eats, breaths and sleeps Blazers, but I will not follow blindly like I did in the past. You must be a young lad. I was once like you.
I consider myself one of the biggest if not the biggest fans out there. I have followed this team closely since 1988 and in some ways arranged my life around this team. Having said that, there are things to be concerned about with this team. If it makes me a bad fan in your eyes that I point out those concerns. I'm sorry. I have to disagree. If you don't point out things that need be to worked on. How do ever expect certain situations to improve? If it wasn't for certain fans and the heat they put on the organization, you could argue some things would not change. Like the Jailblazer era for instace. Fans spoke, the organization responded.
Fair enough, here are some positives this year: Oden continues to make steady improvements to his game. He is on track to be a complete beast by his 4th season which is when big men come into their own. LMA is playing the most physical basketball of his career right now. He has been unstopable at times. Rebounding well. His is growing into the contract he signed. Rudy is starting to really bounce back from his slow start. He is a real threat for steals on D. His shooting touch has returned. Joel has calmly accepted coming off the bench and is playing very well while in the game. Portland is holding teams to a very low shooting percentage this season. The defense seems to be clicking. The team is beating the teams they should beat. And in many cases crushing them. I don't remember the last time Portland went 4 and 1 on a 5 games in 7 nights road trip. The quality of opponents doesn't matter. Last year they couldn't get it done on the road and this year they are. Paul Allen is still hands down the best owner in the NBA. Portland is getting a bunch more fast break points then they have in the last 4 seasons. The Lakers are struggling somewhat. (This isn't really about Portland, but it does make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside). There are some concerns about the team right now but there are plenty of positive signs as well.
BS. Some fans cried about being the media bad guys and the club ignored them and kept winning 50+ games and selling 20,000+ seats. When Sabas and PIP finally broke down for good, that team was done contending. Additionally Bonzi had never regained his bounce from his blown out knee. The club sold off their remaining bad guy pieces for crap, and the grateful fanbase responded by averaging the lowest attendance in the league. Remember the big Blazer protest rally that Canzano endlessly hyped??? Like 4 people showed up. STOMP
I'm a fan and where I live it is 70 degrees and sunny right now. Am I a fair weather fan? If I am, what is so bad about that? Do you have to live in the perpetual rain to appreciate the Blazers?
Are you one of those people who just accepts everything as is, and never does anything about it? My goal for the Blazers is to win a championship. No more, no less. If I see things which I think are not leading down that path, I view it as completely acceptable to voice my opinion that things are not leading towards that goal. The best way forward is to look at all ideas and pick the best ones to move forward. That is what forums are. An expression of opinons as to the best way forward. We may not always agree. But to tell people to blindly accept status quo and not discuss it, you might as well shut down the message board. If all I am going to see is all posters blindly accepting everything as is, why bother to read it?
No. That's not fair weather . . . that is damn goiod weather for November. Geez Stomp, I thought you would know the difference between good and fair weather.
I agree we should not settle. winning a championship is our goal. i like hearing everyones opinions. it is interesting
I think it's less a fair weather fan issue than a "tone" issue. It's the internet, so it seems a lot of people decide that they want to voice their opinions in as shrill and abrasive a way as possible.
