We are all Americans. I'm not black, but you know what, I consider Obama "my people" and every person on the supreme court "my people" . . . because they are all Americans. I once ran up several flights of an enclosed concrete stairway in the old Columbia Studios in Hollywood when I heard a full live orchestra playing some awesomely complex music upstairs. As I climbed the stairs, instruments seemed to drop out one by one until I rounded the last corner at the top and found my roommate sitting there all alone playing his acoustic twelve string.
