"[Shannon] Brown, a Lakers reserve guard, hasn't been invited to participate in the 2010 All-Star game slam-dunk contest in Dallas — yet. But the more the acrobatic, high-flying Brown throws down the electric dunks that have made him a YouTube sensation and a staple of ESPN highlights, the bigger the groundswell grows for him to be included in the contest. His teammates are in awe of his dunks and are pushing hard for him. Lakers fans go berserk when Brown defies gravity with elevates his 6-foot-4 frame before a dunk. As for Brian Shaw, he couldn't help but chide Brown about his dunking exploits. Shaw told Brown about his former Boston Celtics teammate Dee Brown(notes) (1991) and former Miami Heat teammate Harold Minor (1995) winning the dunk contest. Shaw even told Brown about his former Orlando Magic teammate Darrell Armstrong(notes) (1996) failing to win the dunk contest. 'When I had Dee the first year, he won it. Harold, I said, 'Every team I've been on, somebody won the slam-dunk championship.' He held up his end of the bargain,' Shaw said. 'Baby boy [Armstrong] kind of let me down a little bit. So I'm trying to get back on track.'"
I don't want Shannon in the Dunk Contest this year. It would be a waste of time. Since Lebron is apparently entering this year, there is a 0% chance Shannon Brown can win this thing. Maybe wait until next year when the contest will be less bias.
I don't think LeBron has a chance at winning the dunk contest. I'd like to see him in it, just for the buzz, but he's not really a "dunk contest" dunker.
It would be pretty amazing if the NBA didn't award the dunk contest to Lebron this year. I'd be surprised. Shannon would have to put up a performance of the ages to beat out Lebron, and Nate Robinson if he returns. Remember how bad Iguodala was robbed a few years back? Lebron will get bias because he's Lebron, Nate will get bias because of his height.
It doesn't matter though. He's LeBron, the posterboy of the NBA. It'll be rigged and he'll win. In all seriousness though (even though I'm slightly serious right there), I'd love to see Shannon in the dunk contest. He has incredible hops, and I'd definitely agree that he's the most electrifying dunker in the NBA right now.
Just watched that video again that Rizzle posted....I forgot how weak LeBrick's dunks were. Most moderately decent dunkers could have done that. That 360 by Brown though was sick. Also nice to see former LA great Von Wafer in the video too.
Um, what the fuck was so special about Bron's last dunk in that dunk contest? I woulnd't say Brown stomped him, but yeah..his dunks were better than LeBrons
Nothing was special about it. He's just LeBron and has gotten star treatment for a looooonnnngggg time now.
LeBron will always get preferential treatment. Though I'd still love to see Shannon in there so that if LeBron wins, Charles and the commentators will keep on bashing the decision.
