He played hard for us ever since his rookie year to last season but then something over the summer changed him. Once he say how much money he could make, the $82,000,000 max contract he whined and cried to get it. As a true leader like Kobe, LeBron and Wade, he needs to act like one take command when the going gets tough, but hey Roy wont play defense because he only cares about himself and his offensive output. Roy's true colors have come out, we should have known this when he refused to take part in the national anthem. As I listen to him right now giving a post game interview, he is not a leader, he is not angry, he's just relaxed. Roy got his $82M, so what else does he have to play for?

For petes sake the anthem thing is nothing. He has been grabbing a quiet moment for himself for over two seasons and not only did no one notice, but no one cared.....until Crapzano got on his soapbox and made a big fucking deal out of it. Brandon doesn't give a shit. He said if it bothered people that much he'd skip doing it and stand with the team.

Things have changed. Not only do they have Greg Oden playing like a different player, he has Andre Miller to learn to play with. His role on the team has changed..and he has had to reinvent himself. Be patient. He'll get things straightened out.

I wouldn't call Brandon "relaxed", more like "under control" and that's one of the traits that make him a great player; it's a good trait. I agree that he just needs some time to get in a groove.

This loss sucks, but perhaps he realizes that a season is not won or lost in a single regular season game played in the month of November.

We put people on a pedestal some times JUST so we can knock them down later. Roy is a very good player. Maybe not as good as some thought he was, but he's young and will improve. I'm not worried about him.

I think the only things you can really get on Roy for this year is his unabashed love affair with Steve Blake (which is probably worse for the team) and his defense. That other shit about national anthems and tunnels, etc, that's for attention whores like Canzano to freak out about and throw a turkey out the window.

There was a quote from only 1 or 2 games ago in which a reporter (Quick?) asked Roy about his recent playing and Roy said that you don't go away from Kobe or LeBron when they have a bad shooting night. So I look up this season PERs and the other 2 are top 10, while Roy is #44. He overrates himself because the local media and fans do. He and Aldridge need to hear some demands to get tougher.

Oh, I see the context of this thread. This is an auxiliary to the OT thread about Roy being in the tunnel during the Anthem. So my post will be perceived as supplementing that cause. Okay, I will add that I think he's doing nothing wrong; in fact, I question why the Anthem is played at sporting events at all when other entertainment events do just fine without it.

I think Nate's true colors are coming out. Mediocre.

he was a mediocre player, a mediocre coach in Seattle, and a mediocre coach in Portland.

Great assistant, but shit-can head coach.

The thing is, I doubt Canzano actually cares, really. I think he just counted on certain elements of his reader base freaking out.

As for Roy, I think he's just having a rough start based on being taken out of his comfort zone and, perhaps, some random slumping. I don't think this is a reflection on his character.

I think they should change the National Anthem to:

Now that would be AWESOME before sporting events! 20,000 people singing this in unison...oh yeah:clap:

Also, kids could do that in school instead of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roy has been a little off all season. It's hard to lead when you're not getting your own job done.

I think Brandon will come around and be fine. My concern with him is that he hasn't been setting up other guys as much. Particularly he has developed very little chemistry with Oden, and he doesn't seem to be all that concerned about it.

Roy is a very good player, and I agree he will get better, technically, as he picks up the savvy vet tricks when he's 'been there done that'.

The only thing that worries me is that i think he's just a fraction too slow for NBA defenses. He uses his superior ball handling and crossover to break down defenses. Now this season that his handle has gone a bit, he's not the same player.
Also, as he ages and slows down, he'll be less effective unfortunately.

It's his physical abilities that I worry will limit his ceiling.

If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
