Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Yep, Oden needs Rudy or Miller to get him the ball. Webster is plain awful at entry passes and neither Roy, Blake nor Aldridge seem to be willing to set him up in the post more then a handful of times a game. It's pathetic. This is a coaching problem to deal with an attitude/skill problem. Roy doesn't for reasons unknown, but he has the skill as he sends zip passes to Joel when he is in the EXACT same position that Oden was. Something very fucking strange is going on with Roy.
Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Bargnani played less (23.9 vs. 24.6 MPG), but got 2 more FGA/G (9.3 vs. 7.3) than Greg in spite of a horrific FG% (0.386) for a big man compared to Oden (0.633 FG%). Bargnani truly sucked during his second season (PER = 10.6), but Toronto still managed to get him 9.3 shots a game. Oden is leading the league in FG% and has a PER of 23.0, yet his coach doesn't want him to worry about scoring (just play defense and rebound) and insists on playing him with a PG who can't/won't get him the ball. Re: Greg Oden Leands the NBA in FG%, but... Haha As for the thread, there is no offensive gameplan. I and a few others have been saying this forever. Our offense is a joke, and the main reason it has been effective is rebounding and the ability of one of the top players in the league.
Tyson Chandler averaged 19.6, 24.4, 22.3, 27.4, and 28.8 minutes for his first 5 seasons. He was 2nd pick overall in the draft. Eddie Curry averaged 16, 19.4, 29.5, 28.7, and 25.9 minutes for his first 5 seasons. He was 4th pick overall in the draft. Both players highly touted going into that draft.
It boggles my mind that we are outscored in the paint nearly every game. In fact, recently, I saw that we are last in the league in pts. in the paint. Yet we have a bigger frontline than basically every team that we play. Something does not add up there and in my opinion its our offensive gameplan (or lack thereof). This is a coaching problem. I love Brandon Roy, but right now I would definitely trade him for Chris Paul if that opportunity presented itself. I firmly believe this team will go as far as Oden takes us, and Paul is a fucking magician when it comes to the pick and roll with a center.
We actually won points in the paint yesterday against Utah. We don't have many points in the paint, partially because we don't get any fast break points. Fast break points are also points in the paint. We get outscored in points in the paint because we have no transition defense, and allow fast break points. The opposing team outscores Portland by an average of 4 fast break points per game. Unsurprisingly, the opposing team outscores Portland by an average of 4 points in the paint per game.
OT but Oden and Howard average the same amount of fouls per game. I wonder if Howard would only play 24 min a game under McMillan.
And with our size advantage we should be able to get rebounds, throw outlet passes, run, and get fast break points. But we don't. Why don't we play to our strengths?
Because he's allowed to play through it. Oden doesn't get that luxury. Sitting Oden until the 2nd half because he has 2 fouls is a joke. Howard had 1 PF in the 1st Q and played the whole 1st Q. There's no doubt in my mind Nate takes him out earlier, even if he's better at not picking up his 2nd. Nate plays it safe way too much.
I don't like sitting Oden, but for what it's worth, he's not a 3 time all-star, former all NBA 1st teamer and DPOY.
Nate's one foul per quarter policy is/was a joke. He still pulls Greg at the 6 minute mark regardless if he has 0 or 1 foul. So, the real policy is Greg gets to play until he has two fouls, OR 6 minutes is up - whichever comes first. Pulling your starting center at the 6 minute mark EVERY SINGLE GAME, even if he one, or fewer, fouls is just flat out retarded. It also guarantees Greg won't see a second of playing time with Andre Miller, the one player who gets him the ball, in the first quarter of any game. Way to get the big man going early Nate. Might as ell have Oden set out the whole first quarter. He'd still have ZERO points, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about him picking up even one foul. BNM
No shit. It's mind boggling to say the least. But I've come to expect that after the 3-guard rotation that INCLUDED Blakey.
