Could be just a rumor, at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised. He may never come back from this injury, either. Such a shame.

Hopefully that isn't the case and it is just dislocated.

Blazers’ Oden carried off on stretcher

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—Portland center Greg Oden(notes) was taken off the court on a stretcher after an apparent knee injury in the first quarter of the Trail Blazers’ game against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

Oden dropped to the floor clutching his left knee and grimacing after colliding with a driving Aaron Brooks(notes) midway through the first quarter.

He was almost immediately surrounded by trainers and physicians. The crowd at the Rose Garden stood and chanted “Oden! Oden!”

The game was stopped for some 7 minutes. Finally, Oden was gently moved to a stretcher and wheeled from the court. The Blazers said he would undergo an MRI but further details were not available.

Oden, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft out of Ohio State, has been plagued by injures for his entire NBA career.

The 7-footer missed rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. Last season, Oden sat out six games after injuring his right foot in the season opener against the Lakers, then missed 14 games after the All-Star break with a bone chip in his left knee. He finished the season averaging 8.9 points and 7 rebounds.

Oden lost weight during the offseason and was averaging 11.7 points and 8.8 rebounds this season as a starter.

The Blazers have been beset by injuries. Starting forward Nicolas Batum(notes) needed shoulder surgery just before the opener. Fellow forward Travis Outlaw(notes) fractured his foot in mid-November and required surgery.

Forward Rudy Fernandez(notes) was out of Saturday night’s game with sciatic pain and set to undergo an MRI. It was uncertain if he would be with the team on an upcoming four-game road trip starting with the Knicks on Monday.

Even coach Nate McMillan was set to undergo surgery Monday after rupturing his right Achilles’ tendon during practice.

The coach was participating in practice because the team is so short-handed. He will miss the team’s upcoming road trip, replaced by assistant coach Dean Demopoulos.

What is the rehabilitation following a patella fracture?
Following a patella fracture, patients will need to keep their knee in a straight position to allow for initial healing. Exactly when the knee can begin moving depends on the strength of the repair your surgeon is able to achieve. Gentle motion can usually begin in the first weeks following surgery.

The most common complication of surgery for a patella fracture is that the metal implants can be painful over time--especially when kneeling. Because of this, it is not uncommon for a second procedure to remove the metal implants to be performed. This procedure is usually done at least a year after the initial surgery. Other possible complications include:

    Infection
    Non healing fractures
Failure of the fixation to hold the fragments in place
    Kneecap pain (chondromalacia)
    Knee arthritis

Damn, almost worst fears confirmed... only thing worse would have been serious ligament damage...but at this point who knows what they'll find.

Oden gave us a ton of hope and some great times. I remember the entire lottery process, the Oden rally downtown when he came in, such excitement, such a good kid... I really can't believe this has happened to him... sucks so bad!

Greg's knee is broken, and so is my heart.

This isn't just the end of our season, it's probably the end of our championship dreams.

Here's maybe some lemonade from the lemons.

    http://www.nba.com/history/players/robinson_bio.html

Robinson suffered a back injury prior to the 1996-97 season and returned to play in six games before suffering a fractued left foot. The Spurs slumped to 20-62, but the silver lining for the Silver and Black was a chance to grab the No. 1 selection in the 1997 Draft Lottery.

The prize that draft was Tim Duncan. The Spurs won the right to draft Duncan and the San Antonio version of the Twin Tower would win two rings over the next five seasons.

We're not going to tank either. This team is still going to make the playoffs, but we're probably better off tanking.
