Does it really matter? This is the reality we have been dealt. I am sure there are lots of things that could have effected whether Oden got hurt, and a lot of them don't have anything to do with medical staff. They have to do with diet and training. Does he drink a lot of soda pop? Does he have a vitamin D or Calcium deficiency? Was he doing any excercises which weakened his knees? They matter not. We have been dealt a hand and need to move forward.

Actually, my orhtopedic surgeon told me the same thing. So far, he is not a big fan of our medical staff. He is originally from Medford, so he is a big Blazer fan. He works as a consultant for the Astros.

Those are all things the medical staff should be monitoring, or at the very least offering assistance with, for a multi-million dollar investment such as Oden. Most pro athletes are not mature enough to figure those details out on their own. If the team isn't helping out, they're failing miserably.

Yea you would think so, but I just read an article the other day about Chris Kaman and they just found out he has had a vitamin D deficiency for quite a while. He has only been in the league how long? Of course that is a different team, different medical staff then Portlands, but the point is made. Just because they are a pro athlete, doesn't mean everything is going hunky dory health wise.

Especially considering this is NOT a Chris Kaman, but a once a generation prospect.
Amongst other travesties; Oden bulking up so much up top during his first rehab. That doesn't happen over night. Yet someone monitoring Oden for the Blazers thought that that extra weight up top was ok?

Gross mismanagement by the Blazers from day one!

...and their owner is from the other end of the spectrum as far as providing for his players. Hell I've heard former Clippers players say that there is no soap or towels provided in their showers.

The "medical healer/visionary" said that, in his opinion, the Blazers staff didn't spend enough time reconditioning/strenthening the other (hip/ankle, etc.) joints and support structures while only focusing on rehabilitating his microfracture repaired knee. Thus, as he naturally overcompensated following the surgery, those factors contributed to his other kneecap giving way.

I think I have that correct. :dunno:

A major screw-up by the medical staff would actually be the best case scenario. If there was an actual, clearly defined reason for the injury (eg, the prior injury was not properly treated) then there is some hope Oden might bounce back.

Shame on Crapzano for not coming forward sooner and preventing Greg's injury!

Witholding his valuable medical knowledge until after disaster strikes seems unusually cruel, even for a twit from Fresno.

That's what he said and while my first instinct is to dismiss the "visionary healer" I guess it's possible that this is what happened, except that Greg was doing more than just lifting weights and focusing on his knee, he was also supposedly doing a lot of pilates which is excellent for strengthening the core. Could it be that one leg being longer than the other has basically thrown his body out of whack where all sorts of stresses are being distributed incorrectly across his frame?

If I were Greg the first thing I would do after I came out of the brace is seek out Tim Grover (a guy I know for sure isn't a quack) and let him rebuild him. But yeah, stay the hell away from the Blazers medical staff (who also gave Nic Batum a clean bill of health to play in the European championships, but somehow missed a torn labrum that had been lingering since before the 2008-2009 season ended.)

It isn't just one example. Right now I would say our medical staff has been questionable in their handling of Rudy, Nic, AND Oden.

Plus Webster and Outlaw. And even Blake was allowed to come back a bit early from his shoulder injury, aggravated it, and hasn't been the same shooter since... I do give them props for Roy and Aldridge, though, both of whom were looking pretty fragile to start their careers.

I was alarmed to see the bandaid above Dante's eyebrow looked like it had been hastily slapped on him. No iodine, so guaze padding...

This is another damper on the team... jeez. It's true though. We need a new medical staff. But I am not sure how easy that is to come by.

Does Paul Allen use the medical staff for his own cancer? All right then, I rest my case. He employs the cheap doctors for the hired help.
