His great stats have to make you wonder why he's playing LESS than he did here last year. And that is with 2 perimeter players injured. I would like to hear Maris' explanation as to why the great Paul Westphal is playing the almighty Sergio less than Sarge did.
You're not looking as deep as you seem to think you are, or maybe you need glasses or math lessons . Despite 3 DNP's and only averaging 14 mpg, Sergio is 3rd on the team in both assists and steals. Only Tyreke and Beno have more. Sergio is 3rd best in the league at steals per 48min, with 3.21. Miller is 124th with 1.28, Blake is 150th with 1.1, Roy is 177th in the league with 0.87. Sergio is shooting .457 fg and .423 from 3pt range. Miller = .405 and .235 Blake = .367 and .342 Roy = .446 and .327 He's averaging 10.9 assists per 48 min which is 6th best in the league, (Miller = 7.8 and is 23rd, Roy = 6.6 and is 44th, Blake = 6.3 and is 46th) and his ast/to is 2.26, 25th best in the league, (Blake is 16th at 2.58,Miller is 33rd at 2.15, Roy is 35th at 2.08) Efficiency rating per 48 minutes (the most singularly telling stat in the game): Oden = 10th in the league at 35.58 LaMarcus = 82nd at 25.53 Sergio = 87th at 25.33 Roy = 105th at 23.86 Miller = 219th at 19.18 Blake = 353rd at 13.06 KP and Nate already look like morons for driving him away, and it's going to get much worse. Couple more years and Sergio's name will be brought up more than Jermaine's, and with better reason, as the one that got away.
He's only played 20+ minutes 5 times, so it figures his number totals aren't huge, but even in limited minutes he has been a game changer several times and been lauded for it by Westphal and teammates. Westphal, like Nate, doesn't tolerate mistakes and will give the quick hook, but the difference is he coaches during practice and timeouts and lets the players play their game and use their brains on the court. So far it has strongly supported my contention that Nate's micro-managing of oncourt action severely limits most player's abilities to perform well and often causes turnovers rather than prevents them.
