Well his PER is 37th out of 55 for all small forwards according to Hollinger's player rankings page (insider only) http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?sort=per&qual=true&pos=sf&seasonType=2, but perhaps even more damning is the fact that his True shooting percentage also ranks 37th out of all small forwards at 50% which is horrendous for a shooting specialist, whose main job is to take and hit threes off of the catch.

I'd love to see if KP could swing a trade for Maruice Evans from Atlanta who seems to be shooting very well, but isn't getting a lot of minutes. He's no Shane Battier, but for 2.5 million a year he'd be a helluva upgrade over Martell and would be useful as a longer term backup to Nic

I would have to disagree with you on that one. Webster is one of the only players that stay on his man with his body. Others play off their man, while Webs is in their grill. Disappointment? Yes for a 6th pick, but he's still our best perimeter player.

Also, perimeter defense was one of the things we lacked the most last season. Once Batum and Webs become that 1-2 tandem that many have guessed, our 3 spot will be solid. I think we are more worried about who is going to give Aldridge a break in the post? He's the only low post scorer we have on the team now. That's the player(s) we need. Someone that was able to get some easy buckets or trips to the foul line.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but we must be watching different games. Martell's focus on defense is like a yo-yo, on some plays he shows a lot of aggressiveness and does a nice job of contesting shots but on just as many he's too far off of shooters or doesn't rotate or provide weak side help, and his lateral quickness against quick wings isn't great so he either backs off and concedes the jumper or he gets burned if he plays them too tight. About the only thing I see him do at high level (for a three) is contest shots as a weak side shot blocker.

Yeah I think we have to agree to disagree on that one. I've seen more of Webster putting his body on the 3's, especially off the post entry passes. He's pretty good at making it very uncomfortable for the player to be in his sweet spots. But hey, we are two separate people.
