Last year I figured he would be starting by mid year, but it never manifested. I wanted it to happen because I plainly thought we could never win a championship with Blake or Sergio at point guard. Flat out. Bayless was considered to be on a talent level similar to OJ Mayo in both high school and college. I watched as other guys from that class, that were not as good as him in college, were thriving in the NBA. It was just a matter of time before he got his time on the court and the talent took over.
Good point, but, to look long term, you need to develop Bayless alongside the other youngsters. Bayless will be in his prime during our championship window. Blake; I don't know where he will be?? So, for me, having Blake (a good backup) start and play in excess of 35 minutes a game to start this year was inexcusable. The coaching staff are lucky that Bayless is saving their asses now. To see what Atlanta achieved this year from going through the growing pains of playing youngsters; seems worthwhile in my opinion.
Same here. And didn't that make you want to tear out your hair at the ineptitude of the coaching staffs philosophy?
I thought that is what we have been doing for the last three years. Playing youngsters. Because ONE of the teenagers did not get enough minutes his first year and 1/4 the coaching staff is a joke? OK
I think Bayless may have been one of the type of players who benefit from being "thrown into the fire.". He is ready for challenges. He will take his lumps, but he is a very confident guy. If they had done this last year I can assure you we would not have won as many games during the season, but would have been a better team by end of year.
Yes they're a young core, but why hamper the development of what is probably going to be one of your key backcourt players, instead choosing to play Steve Blake? Otherwise why draft someone in the lottery if they're just going to sit on the end of the bench behind someone like Steve Blake. (and yes I thought this last year even though Blake did have an ok season) Oden was recuperating, we did win 54 ,but really had no real chance at the title; It wouldv'e been the perfect time to let the youngsters learn through playing time and experience on the court together. An investment for a few seasons down the road. The coaching is a joke for a multitude of reasons. This is just one.
