Apocalypto--8/10 Wow. First time seeing it. Awesome movie, great scenery, good story. The visuals in blu ray were just fuckin' amazing.
8/10 Very entertaining movie. Visually, it's just so impressive. The fictional world just keeps catching your eye as you watch the main character explore more and more of it. And the 3-d aspect definitely enhances it. It's one of the first times I've watched a movie in 3-d, where I didn't feel it was a pointless tacked-on feature. A lot of the scenes in this movie though (the action scenes in particular) really immerse you with the 3-dness. The storyline is fairly basic and done-to-death ('Dances with Wolves' with an alien Pocahontas) but I didn't mind because I was so engrossed in the atmosphere and the visuals of the film. I never really felt like the movie was dragging on, despite its length. The 3-d glasses got a bit annoying towards the end.
Avatar - 10/10 I agree with everything mentioned above, but apparently enjoyed this more. I loved the story (even if it wasn't terribly original), and it was an absolute visual spectacle. If you see this movie, you HAVE to see it in 3D, I can't imagine watching it any other way. But it was phenomenal and worth the hype in my book, and one of my favorite movies of the year (close call between this, Star Trek, All Saints Day, District 9 and Inglorious Basterds).
Alexander was a pile of crap. I thought it was going to be a pretty good movie when I saw it a few years ago in theaters, but it was horrid, god awful shit. As noted previously, I loved Inglorious Basterds, top 5 movie this year for me. And Law Abiding Citizen looked good, never got the chance to see it though.
Avatar - 9/10 I didn't get to see it 3D but nonetheless, the movie was fantastic. What more can I say? I wanna see that Gladiator/300 mix... Sparticus, I believe.
The Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans -- 9/10 -- Herzog is a mad genius and this movie is fucking awesome. Nick Cage at his best. Seriously, see this now.
The funniest movie I have seen in the last year was probably Funny People. What happened to comedies?
Zombieland, The Hangover, The Ugly Truth, Fired Up....all those were funnier than Funny People. While I loved Funny People and it had some hilarious moments, it was almost more of a drama than anything.
saw bruno, fucking beyond funny, was watching it in the hospital when my girl was having our son and the nurses would walk in and there would be some wrong shit going on on the screen. hangover was funny too, havent seen zombieland, good?
