TRAIL BLAZERS WAIVE SHAVLIK RANDOLPH PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers have waived forward Shavlik Randolph, it was announced today by General Manager Kevin Pritchard. Signed by Portland on Dec. 30, Randolph appeared in two games for the Trail Blazers this season, totaling four points, a rebound and an assist in five minutes. Portland’s roster now stands at 15 players.
Doesn't this just mean his contract won't be guaranteed, but that the Blazers will probably turn around and sign him to ten-day contracts?
Only for as long as Rudy or Batum is out. Once one of them gets back, we would no longer have the roster exception
I'm not sure if they will since some guys are coming back soon, maybe they can't. Might as well waive him before the contract is guaranteed.
Yea they have, I was just kidding. Everybody who goes to play in PHX and their uptempo system has their numbers artificially inflated. Channing Frye is still, Channing Frye. The same Channing that was here. It's just now he has a coach who doesn't give a rip if he chucks it up from the outside all the time, and doesn't give a rip if he plays defense.
Anyone have any insight as to how much these contracts are worth and how desperate is the player getting one?
as far as I know, it's a 10-day contract in terms of length, but standard pay based off of NBA scale (each game is 1/110th of the contract total). So Shav probably gets the vet minimum...959,111 for a 5th-year player. If he's there for 4 games in 10 days, that's somewhere around 34,876.
